PART 84: Grimsby Career Mode-FIFA 17

New Signings: Dembele & Odegaard

Ty Stedman-"Hiroshi Kiyotake has left us bound for Newcastle United so in reply we've broken the bank a little bit and brought in Martin Odegaard as the second attacking midfield option behind Oscar. This'll benefit us very well as Odegaard has a lot of talent and fits in with our structure.

We've lose fullbacks Daniel Alessi and Evan Osam who have both admittingly been phased out of first-team action in recent years. We've added some strength up front though in the form of Moussa Dembele. He is a goalscoring machine and I'm very excited to see what he and Daniel Sturridge can do together leading the line."

Premier League-Matchday 1-Sunday 14th August 2022
West Ham 0 def by. GRIMSBY TOWN (B.Chilwell & M.Dembele) 2
London Stadium
Crowd: 55,687

Ty Stedman-"If you asked me what would be a perfect start to the new season, I'd describe something similar to what we produced today. A 2-0 win, a clean sheet, our debuting striker got a goal and we created more chances that should have been buried. We were in control of the match and on opening day that is nothing but a blessing.

West Ham have always been a tricky opponent for us and we've always had low-scoring games but we've kept clean sheets against the Hammers more than any other team. Our side love coming to this ground and giving our long-travelling away fans something to take home. We're delighted with the start but there's a helluva long way to go."

Premier League-Matchday 2-Saturday 20th August 2022
GRIMSBY TOWN (M.Dembele-PEN & M.Odegaard) 2 def. Middlesbrough (M.Cox-OG) 1
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"It's amazing what a start we've had this season. Year in, year out, we've had luck go against us at times but today shows that sometimes it does favour us. Middlesbrough dominated the game, they had an abundance of corners but Mason Cox stood firm all game. He saved countless attempts and although he conceded a late own goal, he had I think his best game yet for us.

As for us. We had few chances but we made the most when we got them. Moussa Dembele's penalty attempt was solid after Elliot Turner did some great work to earn the spot kick and Martin Odegaard showed a lot of pace on the break to score towards the end. They got one late, the own goal, but that didn't ruin our day at all."

UEFA Champions League Group Stage Draw:

Ty Stedman-"I don't believe in terms like 'Group of Death' or something along those lines. That being said, this is probably a tougher group as we could have possibly asked for. We wanted to play elite European competition and we're getting it in full order over the next few months.

We're a club that loves to take on a challenge so to have a tough draw is just going to benefit us in the long run. We can potentially prove ourselves as a big-time club. That said, the goal is at this stage to finish 3rd and get into the Europa League. That'd be a success in my book looking at this group."

Premier League-Matchday 3-Sunday 28th August 2022
Sunderland 0 drew. Grimsby Town 0
Stadium of Light
Crowd: 44,875

Ty Stedman-"I can't say we deserved to win based on that second half display but we should have been leading at half-time and that would have boosted our confidence and perhaps drove us on to win it. We had the chances in the first half and they went wasted. I'm not sure why because we've been finding the net well so far this season.

Sunderland seem like a side willing to fight out scrappy games and that was today's game in a nutshell. It was disappointing to see us let them in towards the end. They could have easily won it with the handful of late chances they produced. We can't afford to do that."

Premier League-Matchday 4-Saturday 10th September 2022
GRIMSBY TOWN (J.Allen x2, T.Buhagiar & D.Sturridge) 4 def. Watford 0
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,025

Ty Stedman-"We had some problems in front of goal at Sunderland two weeks ago but today saw all of those problems just fall by the wayside. We were superb and although I say we made the most of our chances, it wouldn't have been too wild to believe we could have got one or two more.

Watford have been a rival of ours for a few seasons now and every time we play them it's a tight affair and hard-fought. We had all our first eleven out for the Champions League this Tuesday and the team we fielded tore a five-man defensive unit to shreds. We were ruthless and it's pleasing to put in a performance like that at this early stage of the season."
