PART 82: Grimsby Career Mode-FIFA 17

UEFA Europa League-Quarter Final 2nd Leg-Thursday 21st April 2022
Grimsby Town (D.Sturridge) 1 def by. STADE RENNAIS (A.Diakhaby x2 & G.Sio) 3
Stade Rennais Progress 5-2 on Aggregate
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"Well we're highly disappointed. Regardless of how far we've come, which in itself is a massive achievement, we wanted to get to the pinnacle of this competition. We've beaten some quality teams this season and we've finally met our match in Europe. They were the better team over the two legs.

We wanted to keep a clean sheet to boost our hopes and they got a smashing goal to open the scoring. That put a dent in our hopes but Daniel Sturridge fired us to life. We pushed a few forward late on and they pounced, scoring the goal needed to send them through. We fell apart from there and of course they scored again not long after. Our heads dropped.

That aside, this is our maiden season in a European competition and to make the Quarter Finals shows that this club is one on the rise. We couldn't be happier with our performances across the group stage and especially the way we put aside some quality opposition. Whether we'll be back next year I'm not sure because we're currently on track for the Champions League. It's been a good journey nonetheless."

Premier League-Matchday 33-Tuesday 26th April 2022
Grimsby Town 0 drew. Southampton 0
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,005

Ty Stedman-"It's been a shaky few weeks for us, including tonight. We look good in patches but look likely to concede at other times. We'll take a draw considering the way Southampton controlled the match but we have teams fast closing in on the top four and we need to hold our nerve at the back end of the season."

Premier League-Matchday 34-Saturday 30th April 2022
ARSENAL (Y.Carrasco) 1 def. Grimsby Town 0
Emirates Stadium
Crowd: 59,987

Ty Stedman-"That was an all-round shocker of a performance. The title race has been us and Arsenal for a good portion of the year and whilst we never really liked our chances, today was a chance to really stun the league leaders and keep our title hopes alive. We started poorly and ended in shambles.

Discipline as you saw went out the window. Our tackles were mistimed, our players were losing their cool and of course we had the send-off and the melee in the second half. I'll be addressing our card count at training because we're a team that pride ourselves on strong discipline. Nothing worked today and we were made to pay."

Premier League-Matchday 35-Saturday 7th May 2022
Grimsby Town 0 def by. CRYSTAL PALACE (C.Wickham & D.Podence) 2
Blundell Park
Crowd: 8,931

Ty Stedman-"Confidence is low at the moment. There's no other way to describe it. The pressure of staying inside the top four is enormous and as it stands we've dropped out with United having played an extra game. We needed composure and performance at the business end of the season but so far we're not hitting the mark.

Palace were too good today. They caught us napping, they stole possession, they scored two brilliant goals and did the job required. As for us, we have to be perfect from here on. The Champions League is the ultimate goal. To be this close is a massive achievement but we want to get there."
