PART 79: Grimsby Career Mode-FIFA 17

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UEFA Europa League-Round of 32 1st Leg-Thursday 17th February 2022
Belenenses 0 drew. Grimsby Town 0
Estadio do Restelo
Crowd: 19,237

Ty Stedman-"That was a fairly disappointing game for both sides I thought. We've watched Belenenses a bit this season and despite sitting 11th in the Portuguese competition, they've shown that they're capable of quality attacking football. Tonight neither team showed their best football.

For the neutral it was probably a game you'd turn off before half-time. That said, we can be happy to come here to Portugal and pick up a draw but it leaves us with the added headache of having to keep them at bay when they come to Blundell Park next week. The away goal rule is something we need to keep in the back of our minds."

UEFA Europa League-Round of 32 2nd Leg-Thursday 24 February 2022
GRIMSBY TOWN (L.Rose & Oscar) 2 def. Belenenses (F.Sturgeon) 1
Grimsby Progress 2-1 on Aggregate
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"Credit has to go to Belenenses. They've tested our desire and our will to progress beyond this stage. We didn't know what to expect from them as they're struggling domestically but they've stepped up in the Europa League and that had to be 90 of the most nerve-wracking minutes we've ever played.

The away goal rule had us nervous but we found a little bit of comfort when Liam Rose headed the first goal in after Adama blasted it off the crossbar. Rose has been vital and has popped up for some important goals lately. Oscar gave us a two goal cushion but it was never going to be that easy.

The defending on their goal was shambolic and had me worried we'd slip away and cost ourselves the chance to progress. We cemented things up and took it more cautiously from there and despite some late scares, we got over the line."

Premier League-Matchday 25-Tuesday 1st March 2022
Watford 0 drew. Grimsby Town 0
Vicarage Road
Crowd: 20,678

Ty Stedman-"Our battles with Watford have been highly competitive and mostly low-scoring so it's not a surprise to see it end even tonight. It would have been nice to see some goals but neither team really created enough chances. We had a few good chances towards the end but none of them really threatened enough for my liking.

We're still in a really good spot at the top of the table but it's a very tight competition and if we can't win games we'll fall out of the top four. Manchester United are our opponents on the weekend so we'll be hoping to fire up and reach another level for that one."

Premier League-Matchday 26-Sunday 6th March 2022
Grimsby Town 0 drew. Manchester United 0
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"Well it was a game where again neither team could find the back of the net. United dominated for the most part and created plenty of chances but we defended well with a little bit of luck added in. Missing the late penalty cost us a chance to steal the points but we didn't deserve to win based purely on our performance.

Arsenal won so they're now even with us but we're still on top via goal difference. We're back into the Europa League for the next fortnight with a two-legged tie with Celtic before a crucial away trip to Tottenham at the end of the month. It's a vital period for us and every game brings a new challenge."
