PART 78: Grimsby Career Mode-FIFA 17

Premier League-Matchday 22-Sunday 22nd January 2022
Liverpool 0 def by. GRIMSBY TOWN (M.Rojas & D.Sturridge) 2
Crowd: 43,356

Ty Stedman-"Today was an example of a perfect game for us. Liverpool opened up massively in the early stages and Marco Rojas gave us a lead after just five minutes and we never looked back. We were able to get in behind a lot more than I expected coming to such an intimidating stadium.

We should have been up by at least two, possible three at the break and we didn't want to come back out and try and run our luck. We wanted a second goal and Daniel Sturridge provided once again. And he showed a lot of class in his post-goal celebration. It probably hurt him a little inside to do that to his old club but that's football.

As for the table, we sit seven points clear after today's win. The league is unbelievable this season. The big teams are struggling, us, Middlesbrough, Palace, there's a lot of underdog stories amongst the top six. It's crazy times but I'm expecting a huge title push from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea just below us. We'd love to finish top four but it'll be a challenge."

Ty Stedman-"The Liverpool win was the first time we'd ever won four straight in the Premier League and we took a lot of confidence into tonight's meeting with Middlesbrough but they simply outgunned us on the night. We took a lead with Daniel Sturridge's high quality penalty that was almost saved despite going in the top left corner.

The second half showed some of our defensive fragility that hasn't been often seen lately. When teams come here and push us for a result, we have at times given it all away and that is exactly what you saw tonight. A corner wasn't dealt with, it pinballed around and they stole all three points."

Premier League-Matchday 24-Saturday 5th February 2022
Grimsby Town 0 drew. Leicester City 0
Blundell Park

Ty Stedman-"I can't help but be disappointed. Seven points clear going into Tuesday night against Middlesbrough and now we've dropped five points in two home games and Arsenal are right behind us. As I've been saying, I don't expect to win the league but when you have an open door, you tend to want to step through it. We should be beating teams like Leicester with our quality.

We didn't really create enough chances to get the three points. Trent Buhagiar started up front and missed a vital chance that normally he wouldn't. We coughed it up in midfield too much to get a chance to move into that final third and we just generally lacked in the key areas of the game."

Premier League-Matchday 25-Saturday 12th February 2022
Newcastle United (A.Armstrong) 1 def by. GRIMSBY TOWN (L.Rose, D.Sturridge & Adama) 3
St. James' Park
Crowd: 49,239

Ty Stedman-"This was a key game for us. Newcastle are in a relegation battle and we wanted to come here and get all three points to remain top of the league but more importantly pour more cement into the foundations of possibly finishing inside the top four.

We dominated the opening twenty minutes but as we've done in the past, none of that dominance paid off. We got given a penalty and Daniel Sturridge unfortunately blasted it too high. Next thing you know they turn us around and we're down 1-0 to a pretty high quality goal. That breaks a team's mentality but we stood firm.

A couple minutes passed by and we hit back with Liam Rose. Despite being a holding mid, Liam has been popping up on the end of chances and now has two goals this season. Daniel Sturridge made up for his miss by getting onto Jordan Ibe's cross but then missed another penalty that was saved well.

On another day we would have been leading 4-1 but we had to sit back and defend our lead before we picked them off on the counter at the end for Adama to make it 3-1 and seal us the three points. Arsenal drew with Liverpool so we're again four points clear now."
