PART 72: Grimsby Career Mode-FIFA 17

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EFL Cup-Round 3-Tuesday 21st September 2021
GRIMSBY TOWN (D.Sturridge-PEN & Oscar) 2 def. Reading (J.Mendes) 1
Blundell Park
Crowd: 8,047

Ty Stedman-"It's not often I sit here and say I'm disappointed with our performance after a win but tonight was shambolic at times. We played with our strongest eleven because we want to bring back some silverware and this cup is something we're sick of crashing out of.

We didn't show Reading any real respect in my opinion. We passed it around a lot without any real momentum and didn't threaten them like we should have. Our defending as the game went on got more casual by the minute and really we were lucky not to bottle it and lose it all. Ben Gibson's red card pretty much summed up our defending tonight. It was a silly challenge.

Reading in my opinion will feel like they blew it. They had the majority of the chances and we really didn't offer a lot. And then when they got the lead in extra time, a penalty up the other end allowed us back in and we managed to find that next level for Oscar's match winner. It wasn't pretty and we'll need to work on a fair bit.

Premier League-Matchday 6-Saturday 25th September 2021
LEICESTER CITY (B.Raman) 1 def. Grimsby Town 0
King Power Stadium
Crowd: 32,102

Ty Stedman-"Credit to the squad for the effort shown tonight. We backed up most of our players from Tuesday night and they really did show a lot more against a quality Leicester team. We dominated the first twenty minutes but as football sometimes go, we found ourselves the victim of a quick counter and a hammer blow goal.

We fought hard in the second half to at least leave with a point and we just couldn't do it. Schmeichel made a few good saves, the crossbar denied us, the post denied us, it just wasn't our night. That happens sometimes. A team can play like we did and get nothing out of the game."

UEFA Europa League-Matchday 2-Thursday 30th September 2021
Hearts of Midlothian 0 def by. GRIMSBY TOWN (D.Sturridge & M.Rojas) 2
Tynecastle Stadium
Crowd: 17,823

Ty Stedman-"What a win that was tonight. That was one of the best games this team has played in my time at the club and it was a night that really hammered home the fact that we're in Europe. Hearts had a vocal crowd and they saw us as a big time opponent looking at all the media build up mid-week. It was an enjoyable few days for us reading and hearing all that.

On the game itself, we controlled possession, our defensive line cut-off most of their threats, our attackers peppered their goal and we won 2-0 and kept a clean sheet away from home in a European fixture. It doesn't really get any better than that.

We don't play again till Monday so the team will get tomorrow off as a bit of a reward for what was an A-plus performance tonight."

Premier League-Matchday 7-Monday 4th October 2021
Grimsby Town 0 drew. Tottenham 0
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"Again this was very similar to the Leicester game. We created a lot of meaningful chances but just couldn't get the ball into the back of the net. Tottenham had the same sort of issues. It wasn't a game that should have ended 0-0. A draw was a fair result but maybe 2-2 or even 3-3 would be more reflective of how it played out.

We had the chance to move to the outright league lead tonight but we're not too dissatisfied with a point as it keeps us inside the top four after seven league games. It's always an issue to balance Europe and domestic games but we're doing a quality job on both fronts at the moment. It's early days though so we're not getting ahead of ourselves."
