PART 70: Grimsby Career Mode-FIFA 17

Premier League-Matchday 1-Saturday 14th August 2021
GRIMSBY TOWN (T.Buhagiar-PEN) 1 def. Arsenal 0
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"It's good to be able to say we beat Arsenal on the opening day of the season but it'd be wrong of me not to mention just how much luck we had. They dominated at times and we only managed a few chances throughout the whole match. This isn't a game we should have won, I can say that much.

The penalty was the correct call. Oscar was taken out after making a dangerous run into the box and Trent Buhagiar made no mistake from the penalty spot. From there we just held on for dear life for the final half hour. The final few minutes were nerve-racking but somehow we got over the line. Diego Simeone has Arsenal looking decent already."

UEFA Europa League-Qualifier 1st Leg-Thursday 19th August 2021
Grimsby Town (D.Sturridge) 1 drew. Kilmarnock (M.Vukusic) 1
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"It was a mixed night for us. Firstly, an amazing experience to see this club host its maiden European fixture. As I've said, we didn't see success like this coming up on the horizon but fortune has fallen our way with some handy transfer sales and some luck along the way.

We absolutely dominated the game. Chances galore for us in both halves and it was Daniel Sturridge that gave us the lead. We should have been up by more but that's football some nights. The clean sheet was vital with the away goal rule in effect and to concede like we did with two minutes to go is a coach-killer. That is severely disappointing and now we need to do it all again away from home."

Premier League-Matchday 2-Sunday 22nd August 2021
SOUTHAMPTON (J.Hesketh & S.Gallagher) 2 def. Grimsby Town (D.Sturridge) 1
St Mary's Stadium
Crowd: 30,891

Ty Stedman-"I wouldn't say I'm too disappointed. Sure it's always painful to lose a game but we played some brilliant football today and if we completed one or two crucial passes in the final third and just got our chances on target, we would have won it.

Southampton's two goals were high quality and on days like this, luck can go one way. We missed our chances, they took theirs. I thought a draw would have been a fair result but it just didn't work out for us. They've just been promoted so it's their first home game back in the Premier League. It was always going to be tough to get something out of it but we gave it a fair crack."

UEFA Europa League-Qualifier 2nd Leg-Thursday 26th August 2021
Kilmarnock (M.Vukusic) 1 def by. GRIMSBY TOWN (D.Sturridge & T.Buhagiar) 2
Rugby Park
Crowd: 12,344

Ty Stedman-"Firstly, a lot of credit to Kilmarnock. They've made it very difficult for us at times although I thought we were the better team over two-legs. That being said, the amount of chances we wasted probably broke a Europa League record of some sorts. In all seriousness we probably should have had it wrapped up in the first leg.

We came here with the intent to survive at all costs. We didn't put in all that work last year just to fall at the final qualifying hurdle. It would have been devastating for the club to miss out on the Group Stage but we've done the job and now we have a few weeks to prepare for more of the juggling act of playing domestically and in Europe."
