PART 68: Grimsby Career Mode-FIFA 17

Premier League-Matchday 31-Sunday 11th April 2021
SWANSEA CITY (B.Baston x2 & B.Biabi) 3 def. Grimsby Town 0
Liberty Stadium
Crowd: 20,972 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"Well what a game that was. I thought we played some brilliant football but the day just belonged to Swansea City. As you know there was feeling coming into this one with a top four spot on the line. A lot of pundits have said Swansea have overachieved this season but that was one of the best teams we've played all season.

We were outclassed on the day and all you can do in this position is just praise the opposition for their work ethic and their quality. It's good as a manager of a club on the rise to see teams like Swansea and Watford mix it with the top clubs. We're certainly aiming for that Europa League spot and all we can do now is bounce back.

Our next three games in my opinion will prove if we're going to Europe or not. We have Liverpool at home, Newcastle away and then Arsenal away. Liverpool are storming up the table, Newcastle are fighting relegation and Arsenal are going for the top four so all three teams have reasoning to really take the game to us. It's just results from this point."

Premier League-Matchday 32-Saturday 17th April 2021
GRIMSBY TOWN (D.Sturridge) 1 def. Liverpool 0
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"The media build-up during the week centered around Daniel Sturridge against Liverpool and he certainly lived up to the occasion. The first half we weren't able to provide too much service to Daniel or indeed Trent Buhagiar on the other side. Our strikers are our key weapons and it's disappointing when they don't see much of the ball.

The second half we stepped up and some excellent goalkeeping from Mason Cox kept us in the game. He's improved in leaps and bounds for his age and we knew he would ever since we dropped him into the number one role. But today did belong to our star signing.

The deciding moment was indeed the penalty. Sturridge's shot smashed the crossbar, it was some hit but of course Joel Matip was in late on him and was sent off which made our job slightly easier. The penalty down the middle took some guts and we had a lot of chances to bury it from there, including one or two that Daniel on another day would have put in the net."

Premier League-Matchday 33-Saturday 24th April 2021
Newcastle United 0 drew. Grimsby Town 0
St James' Park
Crowd: 49,328

Ty Stedman-"We've probably had the most scoreless draws in the Premier League this season. It's not very often you get a nil-all game as entertaining as the one we saw today. Newcastle are trying to stay above the drop zone so every point is crucial and Tim Krul in goals really did a standout job at keeping us out.

We really controlled the game in midfield with Liam Rose standing out and being voted Man of the Match by Sky Sports. Up front we were just unfortunate, Trent and Daniel were firing shots from all angles but as I mentioned, Tim Krul was enormous and luck wasn't with us. We've got a huge game against Arsenal next week that could define our hopes of a shock Champions League appearance."

Premier League-Matchday 34-Wednesday 28th April 2021
Arsenal 0 drew. Grimsby Town 0
Emirates Stadium
Crowd: 60,023

Ty Stedman-"What a monumental game tonight for us. A win would have thrown us directly into the Champions League scramble but a point is good enough to keep us a big chance of making the Europa League. We came here with a game plan and we executed it and were probably unlucky not to get more.

Arsenal though were superb as well and it was a highly competitive match. The match did flare up a few times but that does happen and with the card count ending 7-1 against us, it's a little bit reflective of what I thought was a inconsistent refereeing display but that happens.

To go to the Emirates in what is Arsene Wenger's final month at the club and get a point shows what this club is all about. We've arrived in the big time and we want to stay here and achieve something."
