PART 44: Grimsby Career Mode-FIFA 17

EFL Championship-Matchday 42-Monday 22nd April 2019

Ty Stedman-"Tonight had a lot of significance for us. It marks a year to the day that we lost the FA Cup Semi Final which we did shrug off but deep down that killed us. The aim was to cap it off and lift that trophy but here we are a year later on the brink of promotion to the Premier League. It's an unbelievable time to be involved at this club.

Tonight marked our first win over a former Premier League winner. Blackburn are one of many sides that have dropped down a tier or two from the big time. It's in our hands now to cap off a hard-fought season. It's one of the all-time low scoring Championship seasons. Promotion is still anyone's to win or lose."

Grimsby Town (T.Buhagiar) 1 drew. West Brom (S.Rondon) 1
Blundell Park
Crowd: 9,051 (SOLD OUT)

Ty Stedman-"Unbelievable. What a game played by two sides gunning for promotion to the Premier League. West Brom have been the best side all season and had us beaten but again as we've done so often, this team found a way back. Trent Buhagiar's goal with literally seconds left, I don't even know how to describe the feeling. It's only a point but it may be the biggest point in this club's history. We're inching closer game by game."

Sheffield Wednesday 0 drew. Grimsby Town 0

Ty Stedman-"What could have been. We had promotion in the palm of our hands but we bottled chance after chance. You love coaching for moments like last weekend but you hate it for days like today. Wednesday were brave in defence and it just wasn't our day.

As you all know, other results have gone our way and all we need is a point from our final two games to complete our quest. I'm not counting my eggs yet and I won't be until we finish the job. Teams have choked from here and we know the job isn't complete."

Ty Stedman-"I can barely put this in words. Three years ago I was sitting here addressing games with Carlisle or Newport. Here I am, same spot, confirming to you that Grimsby Town is heading to the big time. The media are calling it football's greatest fairytale on English soil. I'd love to sit here and say we were aiming for it all along but this is beyond our wildest dreams.

A point was all we needed today and we had a penalty in the third minute or so. As soon as Trent buried that penalty I knew our chances were sky high. Our defensive unit is the best in the country. Yes we haven't been tested at Premier League level but we are rock solid.

Lance Morgan in goals, what a keeper. 35 clean sheets this season. We've played 52 and he has 35 clean sheets. I hate touting my own players but yes, at this moment, he's one of the best goalkeepers on the planet. England know that. That's why he played at the World Cup last year. He's only 18 so there's no limit to where he might go down in the history books.

Up front. We had no Bruno Fornaroli the last month or so but Trent Buhagiar has come to life at the point of our attack. He's in with a shout for the Golden Boot. 78 goals in three seasons at Grimsby. He was signed to be fourth-choice striker in League Two. He's one of many stories in this team.

And I tell you right now. Saturday afternoon, Blundell Park, Ipswich Town will not know what's hit them. We're throwing the biggest party the East coast has ever seen. Grimsby, we've done it, four years, four promotions. We just keep breaking down the barriers. They say it's the worst place to live in England but now we have the Premier League on our doorstep."
