    1. Zone League Three is a good stepping stones for clubs who want to take the next step. Only need 1sts and Ressies. I play AA/H and played Greta last year, personally think the club would go well if they jumped up. The ground there is more than capable and there's some depth. I haven't played D grade or Zone but I'd imagine it not to be too much different. That's my two cents anyway.

    2. Cheers mate. Who do u play for??

    3. I play for Cooks Hill. Have played Greta last season and this season. Physical blokes but decent off the field. I missed this year's game up there (our goalie got sent for punching on with one of your blokes haha).

  4. What team would you like to see go up from zone leagues to the newfm league. also do you ever think a team from port Stephens will be in the Newfm league

    1. Beresfield United would be good but their field is a bit dodgy. I feel if Mayfield merge their seniors and juniors one day they could become a big club like Cooks Hill. Would love to see a Port Stephens side in New-FM as it's a beautiful area of the region but can't see it happening soon.

Nelson Bay are ZL2 I think, Raymond Terrace could happen but is that Port Stephens still? Medowie have a decent junior base but a long way off and Tilligerry way too small. Maybe a merged side could work.

    2. why Bero, they have been there before and were dropped because of there ground, since they haven't moved or done anything to change that so why should they be the choice to rise. Yes they won the comp but there should be more to it than that. Northern tried to push the Bay about 8 years ago, but to much infighting, shame about that as Northern need a team up there.

    3. I said Bero need to fix the ground issue, apart from that they're in a good way for promotion. Infighting affects a lot of the clubs. Unfortunately it's a part of the game.

  5. IN ALL GRADES

Who is your NEWFM player of the year and why?

Who gets your goal of the year in NEWFM and why?

Bar Cooks Hill, who is your favourite club and why?

    2. What do you mean? Are you doing a season recap on your favourite over the years?

    3. Player of the Year:
1st Grade: Sam Walker (Lakes) (41 goals, that is amazing)

23's: Gocha Abshilava (Cessnock) (I haven't seen too many 23's games that aren't Cooks Hill but this guy has impressed me.

19's: Toss up between Jordan Harper (Lakes) and Matt Ellis (Belswans)

17's: Kaia Roth (he's been amazing in goals for Cookers, for other clubs I'd go with James Ward at Lakes.)

      Favourite Goals:

1st: Jono Mitchinson's (Cookers) against Belswans. Was a bomb. If not him I'd go with the second Sam Walker scored against Wallsend in the 3-1 two weeks back. Can't think much further back than that.

23's: Again Cookers here, Giles Olsen-Boyd scored a superb long-range goal against Westy in Round 21.

19's: Matt Ellis' goal against Lakes in Semi Final 1st Leg was impressive, for Cooks Hill I'd go with Seb Lewis and his free kick at Singleton.

17's: Honestly can't remember, maybe one of the five Kahibah put past Lakes a few weeks back. Was an incredible team performance that one.

Favourite Club would have to be Wallsend. They've treated me well (as have all clubs) but the team spirit there is infectious. I have a lot of time for that club and it's players and support staff. I really like the vibe at Valentine as well and Kahibah get a mention for their friendliness. I've had great experiences with all clubs though.

  6. Why did you give so much coverage to the zone leagues, only to pull away and basically exclusively cover the newfm league bar a few updates, and then get upset at NNSW for only updating on NPL, while paying little attention to leagues below.

isnt this essentially the same thing?

    1. and on the topic of the zone leagues, who do you think will take out the major in each grade, and which one will you go watc?

      Delete
    2. I didn't pull away from the Zone Leagues, anytime I missed it was simply due to me not having the time to write it. I try and keep up but with 20 New-FM games, 15 NPL and 19 Zone games it's hard some weeks.

I think Bero will win ZPL, but Swansea possess a challenge. I feel like Cooks Hill might steal the ZL1 crown from under Morisset's nose, the Terrace should win ZL2 and ZL3 New Lambton is my pick.

I'll be going to ZPL Final and ZL1 if Cooks Hill are in as they are my club, if they're not I'll go to ZL3 as I'm helping West Wallsend do a program for it and wouldn't mind going back to Johnson Park.

  7. Will there be npl season reviews

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'll probably do an NPL Season Wrap-Up but no Club Reviews as I simply don't know enough and don't have the time. The New-FM ones have taken a lot of hard work over the last month or so. Something to consider for next year though

  8. What's your thoughts on the quality of the referees throughout the NEW FM league?

    1. They've improved during the latter parts of the year. As with any humans there's sometimes mistakes but I feel as though they're improving.

  9. In your honest opinion do you believe that there are any players that you have seen in the NewFM 17's & 19's who could play NPL? I know you have stated in an article you published previously that you believe they can however they are overlooked due to politics and how expensive registration costs are but I must say having played NPL in Sydney that the rego is much more feasible at $650 in Newcastle than it is at $2200 down there. Also yes there may be politics with certain clubs such as Olympic and Magic but It is exactly the same if not worse in Sydney. Anyway on a pure football ability, having seen NPL and NewFM I personally believe that only a small few 17's and 19's NewFM players would at best make mid table NPL sides. What are your thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes I do believe there are some around. I caught my first NPL 19's match of the year the other night and was super impressed. More training helps and playing against better players helps. I had a NewFM 17's coach tell me last week though that as long as you're under 21 it doesn't matter whether you're in NPL or NewFM, it matters who your coach is and how good they are at coaching and development. Wise words

      Delete
    2. I disagree with that because for example I look at the Lake Macquarie 17's who have dominated the competition for the majority of the season and although apparently they defeated Lambton's 17's 9-0 in a friendly, from what I've seen in the NPL I can honestly say that I believe they would not to be able to compete with any of the top 6 NPL 17's sides, they would be humiliated. So yes although players develop at different stages, from an NPL clubs point of view (particularly the stronger ones) they see their 19's and 22's as potential and future first grade players for them. So although it is one thing to play NPL it is another thing to actually play for the stronger NPL clubs such as Olympic and Magic.
