PREVIEW: Zone Football League Round 14's ZPL Match of the Round
New Lambton Eagles (6th) v Mayfield United (5th)
Last Time They Met: Mayfield United 0-2 New Lambton

Desperate times call for desperate measures and for the New Lambton Eagles, times are certainly crucial as they look to build some form and re-enter the top four. A loss to Mayfield on the weekend could very well cost them a spot in this season's finals.

Mayfield themselves need to return to the winners' circle after being blown off the park by Beresfield United last weekend. Stilll, New Lambton won the first match between these sides 2-0 and if they're serious about their finals hopes this season, I think they're a decent chance of winning at home against Mayfield.

My Tip: New Lambton 2-1 Mayfield United

Cardiff City (2nd) v University F.C (3rd)
Last Time They Met: University 2-0 Cardiff City

I'll gladly say that the race for the minor premiership is over and Beresfield will finish top but mathematics say that the title race is still technically alive. The winner of this game will still be an outside chance of winning the title whilst the loser could drop out of the top four although. It's a very important game and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a draw. I'm sure those in purple and white will be eagerly awaiting this result on Saturday.

My Tip: Cardiff City 1-1 University F.C

Beresfield United (1st) v Barnsley (10th)
Last Time They Met: Barnsley 0-4 Beresfield United

With seven games remaining, high-flying Beresfield United sit eleven points clear at the top of the table and it doesn't seem like any team's going to stop them anytime soon. They were comfortable winners when they played Barnsley away from home and considering the Eagles have put several teams to the sword at Pasadena this season, this game could be a long one for the visiting Bulldogs.

My Tip: Beresfield United 6-1 Barnsley

Newcastle Suns (7th) v Garden Suburb (9th)
Last Time They Met: Garden Suburb 1-2 Newcastle Suns

This game is a fairly simple one; the loser will be out of the race for finals and the winners will have slim but still possible hopes of making the playoffs. The Suns were 2-1 winners at the Kingfishers' home ground earlier this season but Garden Suburb are no pushovers and will provide a stiff opposition on the weekend. I like Garden Suburb's chances of victory in this one.

My Tip: Newcastle Suns 0-1 Garden Suburb

Dudley-Redhead (8th) v Swansea F.C (4th)
Last Time They Met: Swansea 2-4 Dudley-Redhead

With not too many games to go, a loss for Dudley-Redhead in this one could be the end of their finals hopes once and for all. Swansea are in some decent form as of late and will know anything less than a win could see them drop out of the top four at the end of this round. I think the visitors will be looking to avenge their home loss to Dudley earlier in the year and I like their chances to be honest.

My Tip: Dudley-Redhead 0-2 Swansea F.C

///-------------------------------------------///'s ZL1 Match of the Round
Cooks Hill United (3rd) v Jesmond F.C (7th)
Last Time They Met: Jesmond F.C 1-3 Cooks Hill United

I'll probably make my way over the Athletics Field to watch the second half of this one between Cooks Hill United and Jesmond F.C. The Rams used their heroic FFA Cup effort as the foundation for a decent run of form in Zone League One but they've come undone as of late and injury seems to be troubling them a little bit.

Cooks Hill's premiership chase has come to a halt as of late and they really need a victory to re-install confidence and take back second-place from Kotara South. I think they can get the job done over Jesmond and it was proven when these sides met back in Round 5 and the Cookers came out 3-1 winners.

My Tip: Cooks Hill United 3-1 Jesmond F.C

Nelson Bay (9th) v Warners Bay (4th)
Last Time They Met: Warners Bay 5-2 Nelson Bay

Nelson Bay are in a battle to avoid relegation with the Westlakes and really could do with a result against Warners Bay on the weekend. Unfortunately for Nelson Bay, the Panthers are in some decent form and are battling themselves for a top four spot so they'll no doubt be fired up for Saturday's match-up. Warners Bay got the win last time these sides met and they're my tip to do it again this time round.

My Tip: Nelson Bay 0-2 Warners Bay

Charlestown Junior (6th) v Westlakes Wildcats (10th)
Last Time They Met: Westlakes Wildcats 0-7 Charlestown Jr.

Charlestown are in a position where every game counts as they attempt to reach the top four before time runs out. Standing in their way this week is the bottom-placed Westlakes Wildcats. Westlakes have improved a bit over the last few weeks and haven't copped any hidings like they did earlier in the season. It's an important game for Charlestown and one I can't see them losing.

My Tip: Charlestown Jr. 4-1 Westlakes Wildcats

Morisset United (1st) v Beresfield F.C (8th)
Last Time They Met: Beresfield F.C 1-6 Morisset United

Beresfield F.C picked up a much-needed win against Kotara South last weekend and the fact that they came from behind to do it makes it even more impressive for the side that have struggled for results throughout 2015. This week though is an extremely tough away trip to Dora Creek and a match against ladder-leading Morisset United. In my opinion there's only one winner in this one.

My Tip: Morisset United 4-1 Beresfield F.C

Kotara South (2nd) v Stockton (5th)
Last Time They Met: Stockton 3-3 Kotara South

This is a crucial game as well as Stockton travel to Nesbitt Park to take on a Kotara South side that will be trying to bounce back from a shock 3-1 loss to Beresfield F.C last weekend. The Sharks were held to a draw by harbourside rivals Cooks Hill last week and in my opinion they'll be keen to get all three points here and maybe move into the top four. Still, the draw seems like a very good option in this one.

My Tip: Kotara South 1-1 Stockton

///-------------------------------------------///'s ZL2 Match of the Round
University F.C (2nd) v Raymond Terrace (1st)
Last Time They Met: Raymond Terrace 2-1 University

This Saturday's top of the table match-up could go a long way towards determining who lifts the minor premiership in this competition and who stands for promotion to ZL1. The University need to hand Raymond Terrace their first defeat of the year if they want to keep the premiership race alive.

The Terrace have been dominant all season and saw off the Uni 2-1 when they met earlier in the season. I've been tipping Raymond Terrace week in-week out and they just keep producing results. Why not again on Saturday?

My Tip: University 1-3 Raymond Terrace

Merewether Advance (6th) v Tenambit (8th)
Last Time They Met: Tenambit 3-4 Merewether Adv.

Merewether Advanced's win over Kurri Kurri last weekend followed what was a decent effort in a 2-1 loss to the University the previous week. Tenambit on the other hand pulled off a very gutsy and a much-needed win over Medowie in their match last weekend. When these sides met earlier in the season, Merewether came out with a 4-3 win but I'm going to tip the resurgent Tenambit to pick up a big win on the weekend.

My Tip: Merewether Adv. 1-3 Tenambit

Kurri Kurri (9th) v Muswellbrook F.C (10th)
Last Time They Met: Muswellbrook 1-3 Kurri Kurri

Both Kurri Kurri and Muswellbrook come into this game knowing that a win could lift them as far as seventh and boost their hopes of avoiding the drop to Zone League Three at the end of the season (that's if there's relegation for the wooden spooners.)

Last time they met, Kurri Kurri were 3-1 winners at Muswellbrook and looking at recent form, I believe this game will be a tighter affair than the original clash. Muswellbrook will be desperate as will Kurri so I'm not going to be surprised if it ends in a stalemate.

My Tip: Kurri Kurri 1-1 Muswellbrook

Hunter Simba (4th) v Maryland-Fletcher (7th)
Last Time They Met: Maryland-Fletcher 1-3 Hunter Simba

Hunter Simba met the full-force of ladder-leading Raymond Terrace last weekend and will need to produce a better result against Maryland-Fletcher if they want to keep their spot in the top four alive. Last time the two sides met, the Bulldogs were on the back end of a 3-1 loss and looking at recent form, I think it will be another Simba win on Saturday.

My Tip: Hunter Simba 4-1 Maryland-Fletcher

Hamilton Olympic (3rd) v Medowie (5th)
Last Time They Met: Medowie 2-1 Hamilton Olympic

It's do or die for Hamilton's slim minor-premiership hopes as they host a desperate Medowie side at Islington Park on Sunday. Medowie were stunned by lowly Tenambit last weekend and although they're still well alive in the race for finals football, they won't want to lose this one. They beat Hamilton last time they met but I feel Olympic just have more going for them at this stage.

My Tip: Hamilton 4-2 Medowie

///-------------------------------------------///'s ZL3 Match of the Round
Wallsend F.C (3rd) v Dudley-Redhead F.C (2nd)
Last Time They Met: Dudley-Redhead F.C 7-4 Wallsend F.C

Dudley-Redhead lost top spot on the league table as New Lambton secured a 3-0 mid-week win over Abermain. A loss on the weekend would see the former ladder-leaders fall below Wallsend into third-place so there's a lot up for grabs in the ZL3 Match of the Round.

Wallsend were big winners over Jesmond last weekend but this is a much tougher test as they host a desperate Dudley side. I think this match could go either way, which is a farcry from Dudley's 7-4 victory in their original match with Wallsend earlier this season. I'm going to tip the home side here but this competition is very unpredictable some weeks.

My Tip: Wallsend 3-1 Dudley-Redhead

Mayfield United Jr. (7th) v Jesmond F.C (9th)
Last Time They Met: Jesmond F.C 2-2 Mayfield United Jr.

Neither of these sides have hit great heights in 2015 but I think Mayfield have a bit more going for them ahead of this match. Jesmond have been on the back end of some very ugly scorelines as of late, although they've struggled for numbers this season. Mayfield I feel will know this is their chance to put a second win of the season on the board. Last time it ended 2-2 but at Stevenson Park, I think the Tigers will bite the Rams.

My Tip: Mayfield United 4-1 Jesmond F.C

Kahibah F.C (5th) v Edgeworth F.C (6th)
Last Time They Met: Edgeworth F.C 2-1 Kahibah F.C

Kahibah I think come into this game with a tad better form than Edgeworth. The Green and Blacks were 7-0 winners against Mayfield not too long ago, the same Mayfield team that held Edgeworth to a 1-1 draw last week. On their home turf, I think Kahibah will avenge their earlier loss to Edgeworth by beating the Eagles this weekend.

My Tip: Kahibah 3-1 Edgeworth

RAAF Williamtown (4th) v Abermain Rams (8th)
Last Time They Met: Abermain Rams 2-4 RAAF Williamtown

Abermain were blown off the park on the weekend by New Lambton and will host the Eagles mid-week at Orange St. Oval. Their match on Saturday will be a tough one as they travel to Tomago to face a RAAF Williamtown side that can put cricket scores on teams on their best day. In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if Saturday was another one of those days.

My Tip: RAAF Williamtown 7-1 Abermain Rams
