PREVIEW: Zone Football League Round 12

Zone Premier League Round 12 Preview:

Newysports.com's ZPL Match of the Round:
Beresfield United (1st) v University F.C (3rd)
Last Time They Met: University 3-1 Beresfield United

After playing just last night (Tuesday), the high-flying Beresfield United Eagles will meet the University once again and after defeating the Students 3-1 in their mid-week meeting, confidence will be high at Pasadena Oval on Sunday afternoon as the ladder-leaders look to stretch their lead at the top.

I can't tip against Beresfield in this one. They're undefeated this season, in good form and beat the Uni just last night. Why can't they do the same on the weekend?

My Tip: Beresfield United 3-1 University

New Lambton Eagles (5th) v Swansea F.C (6th)
Last Time They Met: Swansea 3-2 New Lambton

The form of defending ZPL Premiers New Lambton has been irregular as of late to say the very least. They were downed by the Suns on the weekend and need a win on Saturday or risk falling further away from the top four. These sides are yet to meet in 2015 so this will be interesting.

Swansea F.C were outclassed by Beresfield United on the weekend but their 3-0 away win at Mayfield says this team on their day can shake a feather or two. I think New Lambton will be too strong at home as they look to move back into the top four.

*Update: I didn't even know these teams were playing mid-week but Swansea scored a 3-2 upset at Chapman Oval so it looks like the sides are a lot closer than I had thought. I still think New Lambton will be desperate to get a win at home and try and get their top four spot back.

My Original Tip: New Lambton 3-1 Swansea
My New Tip: New Lambton 2-1 Swansea

Cardiff City (2nd) v Newcastle Suns (7th)
Last Time They Met: Newcastle Suns 3-5 Cardiff City

Cardiff City have swiftly made their way into second place on the Zone Premier League table and are playing some decent football at the moment. A 1-0 win over Dudley may not have been the biggest win but it got the job done and they'll be confident playing the Suns at home as they beat the Carrington-based side away from home 5-3 not that long ago. Cardiff for my money here.

My Tip: Cardiff City 3-2 Newcastle Suns

//-----------------------------------//

Barnsley (10th) v Mayfield United (4th)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

There's not much going the way of the Barnsley ZPL side at the moment. After losing to Uni 8-1 last weekend, the Bulldogs now face a Mayfield United side coming off a severely disappointing 5-3 loss to Garden Suburb. There's no way in my opinion that Mayfield will lose to another lower-table side. If they do then they should reconsider their finals hopes.

My Tip: Barnsley 1-5 Mayfield United

////-------------------------------------------------------////
//-----------------------------------//

Dudley-Redhead (8th) v Garden Suburb (9th)
Last Time They Met: Garden Suburb 5-4 Dudley-Redhead

Garden Suburb's season has began to turn around with two crucial wins in the space of a week. They stunned Mayfield United 5-3 on the weekend and during the week they beat Dudley 5-4 to move to within two points of the 8th-placed side.

I don't think Garden Suburb will make the playoffs, although a collapse by one of the top four sides (Mayfield especially) could make things interesting if the Kingfishers keep winning. I do think they'll finish mid-table and they're my tip to do the double over Dudley this weekend.

My Tip: Dudley-Redhead 1-3 Garden Suburb

Newysports.com's ZL1 Match of the Round:
Jesmond F.C (4th) v Stockton (6th)
Last Time They Met: Stockton 1-3 Jesmond

Jesmond's confidence and form since their epic FFA Cup clash with West Wallsend has been superb. Although their 2-1 win over Beresfield F.C was sloppy last week, it gave them another crucial three points. The Rams I think could finish higher than fourth if they continue to keep winning.

Cooks Hill have dropped six points in two games, Kotara South aren't exactly the most consistent side going so if Jesmond can perform well over the next month and half or so, they may be able to record a top two finish. Anyway onto the actual game on Saturday.

Stockton aren't in the best of form at the moment and lost a home to Jesmond only a couple of weeks ago. I think it'll be a Rams win here.

My Tip: Jesmond 2-0 Stockton

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Cooks Hill United (2nd) v Beresfield F.C (8th)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

With two losses in their last two outings, Cooks Hill are in desperate need of a win to keep their spot in second-place alive. Facing lowly Beresfield this week, the result should be going the way of the Cookers but you never quiet know with some of the results this competition has been producing as of late.

Beresfield have come close to getting a draw in their last two games but both unfortunately for Bero ended in defeat. I think Cooks Hill will win on Saturday, I think they have to. It's not a good look for the pre-season favourites to be losing three straight games.

My Tip: Cooks Hill United 4-1 Beresfield F.C

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Charlestown Jr. (7th) v Warners Bay (5th)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

These sides are going to play each other twice in four days so it's a crucial period for both sides. The first clash will be played at Charlestown Oval on Saturday. The Hammers scored a big result last week, holding ladder-leaders Morisset United to a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Warners Bay will provide another tough challenge as the Panthers are in some form as of late, including a win over Morisset. This is arguably a derby of sorts and should be a cracker between two sides that will want to win it. Warners Bay are my tip but it could go either way.

My Tip: Charlestown 2-3 Warners Bay

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Morisset United (1st) v Nelson Bay (9th)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

I don't give Nelson Bay much of a chance in this one. Sure they can score some goals on their day but at the end of the day, they've conceded way too many goals to achieve much success this year. Their record against top four sides is poor and considering Morisset are coming off a big mid-week 6-2 win in the top of the table clash with Cooks Hill United, I can see this one going only the one way.

My Tip: Morisset United 5-1 Nelson Bay

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Kotara South (3rd) v Westlakes Wildcats (10th)
Last Time They Met: Westlakes 1-4 Kotara South

After seemingly scoring a season-changing result against a depleted Cooks Hill side last week, the Westlakes Wildcats returned to losing ways mid-week, going down to Kotara South 4-1 at Rathmines. The Tigers are sitting in third-place and if they can win against the Wildcats on the road, then they should be able to win at home. With Cooks Hill enduring a form slump, Kotara South could find themselves in second sooner rather than later.

My Tip: Kotara South 6-1 Westlakes Wildcats

Newysports.com's ZL2 Match of the Round:
Hamilton Olympic (2nd) v Raymond Terrace (1st)
Last Time They Met: Raymond Terrace 3-1 Hamilton Olympic

It's going to be a clash and a half as Hamilton Olympic host ladder-leaders Raymond Terrace at Islington Park on Sunday. The Rangers are on fire in 2015 and are coming off the back of a commanding 8-1 victory over local rivals Medowie.

I consider Raymond Terrace the favourites in this one but Hamilton though won't be an easy team to beat as they too are coming off a massive win last week, 7-0 over Muswellbrook. The Rangers won 3-1 the last time these sides met and if they can win again only the University would realistically be able to catch them for the minor premiership.

It's going to be a tight contest but I can't tip against Raymond Terrace at the moment.

My Tip: Hamilton Olympic 2-3 Raymond Terrace

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Kurri Kurri (9th) v Tenambit Sharks (10th)
Last Time They Met: Tenambit 1-1 Kurri Kurri

Neither bottom-of-the-table side would have been pleased with the 1-1 draw on Tuesday night as it did neither side any favours when it comes to avoiding the wooden spoon. Kurri Kurri have an extra game in hand and hold a one point advantage over Tenambit so a win on the weekend could go a long way towards the Roosters avoiding the spoon.

I'm tipping Tenambit though as I think they're side that can produce results on their best day and they'll be keen to get off the bottom of the table.

My Tip: Kurri Kurri 1-2 Tenambit

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

University F.C (3rd) v Merewether Advance (7th)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

Merewether Advance picked up a massive win over Hunter Simba last weekend and it'll give them a much-needed confidence boost ahead of this weekend's clash with a very strong University side. The Uni were postponed last week but their last game was a comprehensive 6-0 win over Tenambit so they'll be full of confidence going into this one.

Uni have lost just the one game this year so I simply cannot tip against them in this one.

My Tip: University 4-1 Merewether

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Hunter Simba (4th) v Muswellbrook (8th)
Last Time They Met: Muswellbrook 1-2 Hunter Simba

It wasn't too convincing when top four side Hunter Simba beat inconsistent Muswellbrook 2-1 not that long ago and after being stunned by Merewether last weekend, I think Simba will be intent on bouncing back in style this week against a side that lost 7-0 to Hamilton in their last outing. Simba get some decent numbers to watch their games and do a great job at home. Simba by a few.

My Tip: Hunter Simba 4-1 Muswellbrook

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Medowie (5th) v Maryland-Fletcher (6th)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

These two sides have to meet twice in the coming weeks and both games will be crucial when it comes to Medowie's top four hopes. After losing heavily to Raymond Terrace last weekend, I think Medowie will step up to the plate and defeat a struggling Maryland-Fletcher side in this one.

My Tip: Medowie 4-1 Maryland-Fletcher

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Newysports.com's ZL3 Match of the Round
Kahibah F.C (4th) v New Lambton F.C (2nd)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

These two sides combined for a 10 goals last weekend so neither have any real issues in finding the back of the net. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those crazy 5-4 scorelines that keep popping up around the Zone Football League. Despite being a Kahibah home game, I'm tipping New Lambton in this one. Their form is very impressive and after beating the ladder-leaders Dudley 3-0 last weekend, they'll be full of confidence.

My Tip: Kahibah 1-3 New Lambton

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Jesmond F.C (9th) v RAAF Williamtown (5th)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

What to say about this one? What to say about a team that lost 10-0 to their opposition just last week. The RAAF were ruthless against Jesmond last Sunday and if that result is anything to go by, this could be another long day for the bottom-placed Rams. Hopefully it's closer but there's something about the 7-0 scoreline in ZL3, it just keeps popping up.

My Tip: Jesmond F.C 0-7 RAAF Williamtown

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Abermain Rams (8th) v Dudley-Redhead (1st)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

Talking about struggling Rams, Abermain aren't doing too much better than Jesmond at the bottom end of the ZL3 table. Abermain were the victims when Mayfield scored their maiden win of the season last week and against the ladder-leaders who lost 3-0 to New Lambton last week, this could be another one-sided outcome.

My Tip: Abermain 1-4 Dudley-Redhead

/////----------------------------------------------------/////
///--------------------------------///

Wallsend F.C (3rd) v Edgeworth (6th)
Last Time They Met: Yet To Meet In 2015

Neither of these sides played last week with Edgeworth being washed out and Wallsend having the bye but looking at ladder positions and more importantly recent form, I consider the Red Devils to be the favourites in this one. Edgeworth's last outing was a loss to Abermain so I don't like their chances against third-placed Wallsend.

My Tip: Wallsend 3-1 Edgeworth
