PREVIEW: NNSW NPL Youth Round 16

NNSW NPL Youth Under 13 Preview:

Newysports.com's Under 13 Match of the Round
Edgeworth F.C (2nd) v Emerging Jets U/12's (5th)
Last Time They Met: Emerging Jets U/12's 2-3 Edgeworth

These two sides played out a thrilling five goal encounter last time out and it wouldn't be a surprise to see them be so evenly-matched again this weekend. Edgeworth are 10 from 10 in this grade and have shown no signs of slowing down in their pursuit of the minor premiership.

The Emerging Jets are coming off the bye two weeks ago and of course were washed out last week. The advantage for the young Jets is that they would have no doubt stuck to their vigorous training schedule as the synthetic turf at Lake Macquarie is all-weather, as I saw first hand last week.

It'll be a tight contest and I think one with a few goals scored. I'm going to tip Edgeworth to continue their winning streak but anything could happen. That 3-2 scoreline is the way I'l go.

My Tip: Edgeworth 3-2 Emerging Jets U/12's

---------------------------------------------------------

Broadmeadow Magic (1st) v Hamilton Olympic (6th)
Last Time They Met: Hamilton 2-4 Broadmeadow

It's a tight race at the top for the minor premiership and it's important that Broadmeadow keep their form in tact. Hosting their arch rivals on Saturday will provide a tough challenge to the young Magicians but judging by the fact that they won the last time these sides met, I'm thinking they'll do it again on Saturday. Either way it should be an entertaining clash as it always is between these sides in any grade.

My Tip: Broadmeadow 3-2 Hamilton

---------------------------------------------------------

Weston Bears (4th) v Maitland F.C (7th)
Last Time They Met: Maitland 0-2 Weston

Maitland will be no easybeats on Saturday and will do everything they can to overcome their rivals in the local derby. It doesn't matter what age group or grade it is, Weston v Maitland is always going to be a tight, tough contest. The Bears were the better side on the day last time they met and they'll have to put in a good performance on Saturday to win this one. I think they're a good chance.

My Tip: Weston 2-1 Maitland

---------------------------------------------------------

Adamstown (8th) v Mid North Coast (3rd)
Last Time They Met: Mid North Coast 5-2 Adamstown

Adamstown's form hasn't been the best as of late and with three straight home losses, the young Rosebuds will be focused on avoiding a loss against a strong Mid North Coast side. The Mid North Coast 13's have recorded some very decent results against teams below them and I'm going to tip them to continue that on Saturday.

My Tip: Adamstown 1-3 Mid North Coast

---------------------------------------------------------

South Cardiff (10th) v Lambton Jaffas (11th)
Last Time They Met: Lambton 0-0 South Cardiff

I almost gave this game Match of the Round status as it's an important one for both sides. Both Lambton and Southy aren't having the best season and with every passing week it's becoming more likely that one of them will unfortunately have to pick up the wooden spoon.

The Gunners have drawn three of their matches and the Jaffas just two, including the scoreless draw last time these teams met. Looking at recent form and considering it's a home game, I'm going to tip South Cardiff to record their first win of the season.

My Tip: South Cardiff 1-0 Lambton

NNSW NPL Youth Under 14 Preview:

Newysports.com's Under 14 Match of the Round
Adamstown (1st) v Mid North Coast (4th)
Last Time They Met: Mid North Coast 0-1 Adamstown

Adamstown's lone loss in 2015 came a month ago against South Cardiff and to the Rosebuds' credit, they've bounced back from that loss with a slightly disappointing 1-1 draw with Edgeworth but more importantly a tight 2-1 victory over Weston.

Mid North Coast have proven themselves in recent times with a big win over the Emerging Jets and a 1-1 draw at home to Broadmeadow. This clash could go either way but considering the teams are fairly evenly-matched I'm going to back an entertaining 2-2 draw.

My Tip: Adamstown 2-2 Mid North Coast

---------------------------------------------------------

Edgeworth (7th) v Emerging Jets U/13's (2nd)
Last Time They Met: Emerging Jets 2-0 Edgeworth

As mentioned in my 13's preview for this match, the Emerging Jets have the advantage of training on an all-weather pitch and with rain like we've got so far this season, that comes in very handy for the young Jets. With Adamstown dropping one or two points recently, the Jets 13's will be eyeing off top spot and I think they could get there with a win at Edgeworth. It'll be a tight game though.

My Tip: Edgeworth 1-2 Emerging Jets U/13's

---------------------------------------------------------

Broadmeadow Magic (3rd) v Hamilton Olympic (5th)
Last Time They Met: Hamilton 2-2 Broadmeadow

One could argue that this game should be the match of the round and it should live up to that hype as these two teams always do when they meet. Last time out it ended in a 2-2 draw and looking at recent form I'd be very surprised if either or both of these teams fail to find the back of the net on Saturday.

As for my prediction I'm going to go with Magic. They'll know that a win on Saturday could go a long way to securing a finals spot and being at Magic Park I think I'll give them my tip.

My Tip: Broadmeadow 2-1 Hamilton

---------------------------------------------------------

Weston Bears (8th) v Maitland F.C (10th)
Last Time They Met: Maitland 1-1 Weston

These two sides are evenly-matched and it was proven when they drew 1-1 back in Round 6. The Bears' 14's have had a frustrating season, with five draws and only the one win. Maitland on the other hand had to wait 15 weeks for their first win of the season, a 4-0 victory last time out against South Cardiff.

The confidence Maitland would have got from beating South Cardiff will no doubt help them during the latter stages of the season but winning at Weston in any grade is a tough ask. I'm going to give them a chance and go for the draw.

My Tip: Weston 1-1 Maitland

---------------------------------------------------------

South Cardiff (9th) v Lambton Jaffas (11th)
Last Time They Met: Lambton 2-3 South Cardiff

The Jaffas' 14's are one of only two teams without a point this season in any grade of the NPL Youth competition but it's certainly not without trying. They've come agonisingly close to picking up a point or two this season and there was arguably no game closer than their 3-2 loss to South Cardiff back in Round 6.

Looking at recent form this one is certainly one that could go either way. Hopefully for their sake the Jaffas can get a point or three out of this one and in my opinion there's no better game to do it. I'm going with the draw.

My Tip: South Cardiff 1-1 Lambton

NNSW NPL Youth Under 15 Preview:

Newysports.com's Under 15 Match of the Round
Broadmeadow Magic (1st) v Hamilton Olympic (2nd)
Last Time They Met: Hamilton 3-4 Broadmeadow

The Under 15's competition is tight at the top at the moment and anything could happen when arch rivals Broadmeadow and Hamilton meet on Saturday. Magic seem to be a freescoring side in this grade whilst Hamilton seem more prepared to grind out a 1-0 or 2-1 win. At the end of the day, either way gets the job done.

Last time they met Broadmeadow won a thrilling seven-goal encounter 4-3 at Darling St. Hamilton will need to produce their best performance of the season if they want to win this one. I'm going to tip Broadmeadow but a draw wouldn't surprise me at all.

My Tip: Broadmeadow 3-2 Hamilton

---------------------------------------------------------

Edgeworth (9th) v Emerging Jets U/14's (6th)
Last Time They Met: Emerging Jets 2-2 Edgeworth

Before last weekend's 3-2 loss to the Mid North Coast, Edgeworth's 15's hadn't scored a goal since April 18th. It was certainly a long-wait between goals but they managed to get two of them against the Mid North Coast. It wasn't enough to avoid a 3-2 loss so they'll be keen to get a win on Saturday.

Last time these sides met, it ended 2-2 but looking at recent form I really like the Jets chances in this one. A top four spot certainly isn't out of reach for the Jets' 14's and they're my tip on Saturday.

My Tip: Edgeworth 1-2 Emerging Jets U/14's

---------------------------------------------------------

Weston Bears (4th) v Maitland F.C (8th)
Last Time They Met: Maitland 0-0 Weston

Last time these sides met they produced an uninspiring 0-0 draw but going on recent form, a scoreless 'bore-draw' isn't going to be on the cards on Saturday. The Bears have bagged ten goals in their last two matches whilst Maitland haven't been too shabby either. The Magpies have had a tough run of fixtures and I wouldn't write them off in this one but my tip is with the home side.

My Tip: Weston 3-1 Maitland

---------------------------------------------------------

Adamstown (5th) v Mid North Coast (7th)
Last Time They Met: Mid North Coast 0-3 Adamstown

Mid North Coast were on the back end of a 3-0 loss when these sides met each other in Round 6. They've picked a good time to play Adamstown as the Buds are out of form and coming off of a 3-0 loss last time out. Mid North Coast haven't been in the best of form either but a 3-2 win over Edgeworth last week would have installed some confidence. I might tip the upset here.

My Tip: Adamstown 1-2 Mid North Coast

---------------------------------------------------------

South Cardiff (11th) v Lambton Jaffas (10th)
Last Time They Met: Lambton 0-1 South Cardiff

Neither South Cardiff or Lambton are doing too well in any grade of the NPL Youth competition and it's going to be a crucial clash in determining who finishes last in the Under 15's when they meet each other on Sunday. Lambton sit ahead of the Gunners on the table, albeit thanks to a single goal difference on for and against.

These sides are very much evenly-matched and in saying that a draw wouldn't surprise me. Although if South Cardiff could bag the three points away to Lambton, you'd think they might be able to do the same at Ulinga Oval. Still, the draw was the first thing to come to mind and I'll stick with it.

My Tip: South Cardiff 1-1 Lambton

NNSW NPL Youth Under 17 Preview:

Newysports.com's Under 17 Match of the Round
Broadmeadow Magic (1st) v Hamilton Olympic (2nd)
Last Time They Met: Hamilton 0-1 Broadmeadow

These two sides are locked in a battle for the minor premiership and at the moment, Broadmeadow hold the advantage, partly due to the fact that they won a tight 1-0 contest at Darling St. earlier this season. It could be a big step towards claiming the minor premiership if the boys in red can record the double over their arch rivals.

It's hard to get a read on the form of these sides or any in the NPL Youth for the matter with the constant wash-outs and what not but in this one I'm going to go with the draw. Hamilton have something to prove after that loss to Broadmeadow in Round 6 and whilst I'm not sure they'll get the three points, a draw certainly wouldn't surprise me.

My Tip: Broadmeadow 2-2 Hamilton

---------------------------------------------------------

Edgeworth (9th) v Emerging Jets U/15's (4th)
Last Time They Met: Emerging Jets 3-1 Edgeworth

Edgeworth aren't doing too well in the 17's this season and found themselves on the back end of a heavy defeat to Mid North Coast last weekend, going down 5-0. I'm sure the scoreline will be much more favourable for the Eagles this time but I'm tipping the Jets' 15's to record the double over Edgeworth and repeat their 3-1 win in Round 6.

My Tip: Edgeworth 1-3 Emerging Jets U/14's

---------------------------------------------------------

Weston Bears (3rd) v Maitland F.C (11th)
Last Time They Met: Maitland 1-3 Weston

Maitland are without a point in 2015 and will no doubt have been frustrated to come so close yet so far in their 3-2 loss to South Cardiff last time out. The Magpies are certainly due for a result but I can't see it coming on the weekend. Weston are in decent form and could very well go top of the table if the 2-2 draw I've predicted between Magic and Olympic plays out.

My Tip: Weston 2-0 Maitland

---------------------------------------------------------

Adamstown (5th) v Mid North Coast (7th)
Last Time They Met: Mid North Coast 0-1 Adamstown

The comparisons between the 17's and 15's for these two teams is interesting to say the very least. Both grades have Adamstown in 5th and Mid North Coast in 7th and Adamstown won both games up there earlier this season. Anyway that's probably where the comparisons should stop.

Looking at recent form I'm liking the odds of the visitors winning in this one. Beating Edgeworth 5-0 last weekend proved that this team is prepared for a big run into the latter stages of the season and depending on if double points will apply to later games, they could very well make the finals. I'm tipping Mid North Coast but Adamstown won't go down easily.

My Tip: Adamstown 1-2 Mid North Coast

---------------------------------------------------------

South Cardiff (8th) v Lambton Jaffas (10th)
Last Time They Met: Lambton 1-2 South Cardiff

South Cardiff were the victors when these sides met back in Round 6 and based on recent form, they deserve to be the favourites in this one. A heavy 5-0 loss to Weston doesn't give me a lot of confidence in tipping them but being a home game and seeing Lambton's recent form, I think the Gunners will just edge this one.

My Tip: South Cardiff 2-1 Lambton
