PREVIEW: NNSW NPL Round 10

1st Grade: Newcastle Jets Youth (7th) v Lambton Jaffas (5th)
Kickoff: Saturday 13/6 2:30pm
Last Time They Met: Lambton Jaffas 3-2 Newcastle Jets Youth

This was a game I caught the second half of in Round 1 and both teams looked pretty good on that day. The Jets Youth started the season strongly but have fallen behind the eight ball in recent times. Their effort wasn't too far off the pace at Adamstown last week and one could argue they were unlucky to go down 2-1.

Lambton on the other hand are still trying to find their way into the top four and last week's 5-0 smashing of South Cardiff certainly went a long way towards securing a top four spot. It's hard to believe half the season has already passed which makes this game important for both sides. If the young Jets lose this one, they'll be at least eight points outside the top four.

Anyway my prediction here is going to be the Jaffas who are technically the away side in this one. After putting five past Southy last week, the Jaffas will be confident of overcoming the Jets Youth.

My Tip: Jets Youth 1-3 Lambton

Newysports.com's Under 22's Match of the Round
Under 22's: Emerging Jets U/18's (3rd) v Lambton Jaffas (2nd)
Kickoff: Saturday 13/6 12:45pm
Last Time They Met: Lambton Jaffas 2-3 Emerging Jets U/18's

This promises to be a highly-entertaining match-up in reserve grade as it was when these sides met back in the opening round. The Under 18 Emerging Jets won on that occasion 3-2 but sit behind the Jaffas on the league table at the half-way point of the season.

The Jaffas' reserves have scored 10 goals in their last two games and are coming off the back of a 6-0 demolishing of South Cardiff last weekend. Ironically the Jaffas have not lost a game since that opening day loss to their opponents this week.

The Emerging Jets 18's haven't been in the best of form as of late and I'm not sure how much I like their chances on Saturday. Jaffas by one or two.

My Tip: Emerging Jets U/18's 1-3 Lambton

Under 19's: Emerging Jets U/16's (5th) v Lambton Jaffas (6th)
Kickoff: Saturday 13/6 11:00am
Last Time They Met: Lambton Jaffas 3-1 Emerging Jets U/16's

This one is a tough one to predict as two sides that are seeking a rise into the top four clash at Arthur Edden Oval. The Jaffas got the best of the Emerging Jets 16's back in Round 1 but looking at recent form, it's not going to be easy for either of these sides to grab a win.

I'm going to back the young Jets as they seem to be producing slightly better results than the Jaffas. It'll be a tight contest though.

My Tip: Emerging Jets U/16's 2-1 Lambton

1st Grade: Weston Workers (2nd) v Adamstown (6th)
Kickoff: Saturday 13/6 2:30pm
Last Time They Met: Adamstown 0-0 Weston

Weston haven't had the best of times facing Adamstown this season. Their pre-season FFA Cup clash ended in a 6-0 disaster and they were unable to overcome the Buds back in Round 1. In this one I think the Bears are a very good chance of winning.

They've been in great form over the last two weeks, producing a stunning comeback against previously unbeaten Broadmeadow and then defeating Edgeworth last weekend. I think it'll be a third-straight win on Saturday for the Bears.

Adamstown can trouble the top teams on their day but as I mention a fair bit, winning at Weston is a very tough thing to do. The Buds though are in good form as of late and the addition of Nick Hills to their squad has been a good one at that. Still, it's the Bears for me.

My Tip: Weston 2-1 Adamstown

Under 22's: Weston Workers (6th) v Adamstown (9th)
Kickoff: Saturday 13/6 12:45pm
Last Time They Met: Adamstown 1-2 Weston

Both of these sides will be looking for a win after recording 1-0 losses to Edgeworth and the Emerging Jets respectively. Depending on other results, a win here could push the Bears' reserves as high as third-place so it's a fairly crucial game as they pass the half-way point of the season.

Adamstown have just two wins under their belts this year and I'm not confident in their chances away to Weston. It won't be a flogging by any means but I just think the Bears will get over the line.

My Tip: Weston 2-1 Adamstown

Under 19's: Weston Workers (1st) v Adamstown (8th)
Kickoff: Saturday 13/6 11:00am
Last Time They Met: Adamstown 2-5 Weston

Weston's Under 19's are still unbeaten and sit firmly on top of the table. Their season started with a comfortable 5-2 away win over Adamstown and you'd think they'd be able to beat the Buds at home if they can do that away from home. Weston by a couple.

My Tip: Weston 3-1 Adamstown

1st Grade: Maitland F.C (10th) v South Cardiff (9th)

Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 2:30pm
Last Time They Met: South Cardiff 2-2 Maitland

Both these sides have injuries and both these sides are fighting an uphill battle to say in the top flight. With Charlestown's shock win over Magic lifting them away from the bottom of the table, suddenly this match is one of the biggest this season for both Maitland and South Cardiff.

There's a host of players missing for both teams but the inclusion of Ben Martin is sure to lift Maitland's chances. South Cardiff were hammered 5-0 by Lambton last week and in front of a vocal Maitland crowd and playing a desperate Magpies outfit, I think the Gunners will struggle in this one.

A win for either team would do them a world of good and I'm tipping the Magpies to get a very valuable three points.

My Tip: Maitland 2-1 South Cardiff

Under 22's: Maitland F.C (7th) v South Cardiff (10th)
Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 12:45pm
Last Time They Met: South Cardiff 2-5 Maitland

Maitland are just one point clear of bottom-placed South Cardiff on the league table but will be confident after their 5-2 victory in the last game these sides played, back in Round 1. South Cardiff were smashed for six by Lambton last week and whilst I can't see Maitland doing the same, I think the Magpies will get the three points in this one.

My Tip: Maitland 2-0 South Cardiff

Under 19's: Maitland F.C (10th) v South Cardiff (7th)
Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 11:00am
Last Time They Met: South Cardiff 4-3 Maitland

Maitland picked up their first win of the season in the 19's with a 2-1 result over Lambton a couple of weeks ago and face a crucial clash on Sunday with South Cardiff. Neither side are that good of form which makes this one a tough one to predict. In Round 1 it finished 4-3 to South Cardiff and whilst I'm not sure it'll be a seven-goal thriller, I think it will indeed be a close one. I might go with Maitland being a home game for them.

My Tip: Maitland 2-1 South Cardiff

Newysports.com's Match of the Round
1st Grade: Hamilton Olympic (1st) v Broadmeadow (5th)
Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 2:30pm
Last Time They Met: Broadmeadow 0-0 Hamilton

I've been keen for this game for a few weeks but due to my own fixture I'll only make the second half. It should still be a highly-entertaining clash between two arch rivals at Darling Street. The Round 1 clash ended in a disappointing scoreless draw but this game I think will see a couple of goals.

Broadmeadow were flying high until collapsing against Weston two weeks ago and going down frustratingly to Charlestown last weekend. Losing Kale Bradbery before kickoff last week didn't help Magic in front of goal and without Josh Piddington at the back, they lacked a little bit playing out. Both these players should be back in the squad this week which will be near enough full-strength.

Hamilton are deserved leaders at the half-way stage of the season and have the equal-best defensive record this season. The addition of Kane Goodchild has paid off big time with the former Charlestown striker averaging a goal a game almost in 2015.

It's no secret that I'm working for Magic as their new media guy so I am a tad bias towards them but that won't stop me from tipping Hamilton this week. Broadmeadow will need to produce one of their best performances of the season if they want to win this one. It should be highly-entertaining so get down to Darling Street on Sunday if you can.

My Tip: Hamilton 3-2 Broadmeadow

Under 22's: Hamilton Olympic (5th) v Broadmeadow (4th)
Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 12:45pm
Last Time They Met: Broadmeadow 2-2 Hamilton

These two sides are very much evenly matched. They drew their Round 1 game 2-2 and sit equal on 14 points on the league table. The only thing separating these sides is Broadmeadow's superior goal difference, the majority of which came in a 8-1 win over South Cardiff.

I think the draw is a real possibility on the weekend.

My Tip: Hamilton 2-2 Broadmeadow

Newysports.com's Under 19's Match of the Round
Under 19's: Hamilton Olympic (3rd) v Broadmeadow (2nd)
Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 11:00am
Last Time They Met: Broadmeadow 0-2 Hamilton

This should be a highly-entertaining clash at between two top four sides in the Under 19's. Just like the 22's, these sides are on even terms apart from Magic's superior goal difference. The Round 1 match ended 2-0 to Hamilton but looking at recent form, I really cannot split these two. Draw for me.

My Tip: Hamilton 1-1 Broadmeadow

1st Grade: Charlestown City (8th) v Edgeworth F.C (3rd)
Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 2:30pm
Last Time They Met: Edgeworth F.C 4-0 Charlestown City

It was a memorable day for the Charlestown City Blues last week as they produced a stunning upset against Broadmeadow, much to their fans' delight. Whether or not they can do the same against a decent Edgeworth side remains to be seen.

Edgeworth have been very good in their games against lower sides this season and when these sides met on the opening night of the season, the Eagles rocketed to a 4-0 victory. I doubt it'll be a scoreline like that again as Charlestown have some decent defenders. I thought Damian Cox was strong last week against Magic and the goalkeeper was good as well, Kyle Predebon I believe.

A win here would boost Charlestown's hopes of staying up in the NPL greatly but unfortunately I think Edgeworth will be too strong. As I mentioned I don't think it'll be a walkover like Round 1 but the Eagles are a decent side and have a great record against lower-ranked teams this season.

My Tip: Charlestown City 1-3 Edgeworth F.C

Under 22's: Charlestown City (8th) v Edgeworth F.C (1st)
Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 12:45pm
Last Time They Met: Edgeworth F.C 1-0 Charlestown City

Edgeworth are flying high in reserve game and against a Charlestown City side that looked shaky once they went behind against Magic last week, I can see the Eagles making it another win on Sunday. This Edgeworth side can win games well and can win ugly if need be. I'm not sure which one of those it'll be on the weekend but I think they'll get the win.

My Tip: Charlestown 0-2 Edgeworth F.C

Under 19's: Charlestown City (9th) v Edgeworth F.C (4th)
Kickoff: Sunday 14/6 11:00am
Last Time They Met: Edgeworth F.C 3-6 Charlestown City

The last time these sides met, Charlestown won 6-3. It was a crazy opening night and a crazy scoreline that I really doubt will be repeated on the weekend. Since that game, Charlestown have gone on to win just one and lose five. Edgeworth on the other hand have recorded four wins, two draws and two losses. I'm going with the away side here.

My Tip: Charlestown 0-3 Edgeworth F.C
