PREVIEW: NNSW NPL Round 8

1st Grade: Adamstown (7th) v South Cardiff (8th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 2:30pm

It's going to be a crucial clash at Adamstown Oval this weekend as the Rosebuds welcome South Cardiff to their home ground. Both these teams have one win under their belts from seven starts and the Buds are just one point ahead of the Gunners on the league table.

The important thing to take in here is that a loss for either team could throw them straight back into the relegation dog-fight at the bottom end of the table. I've seen both these sides play this season and was generally unimpressed by South Cardiff. They put on a decent display against Edgeworth last weekend but they're going to find it tough to break down the Buds.

Adamstown was boosted by the inclusion of former Jet Travis Cooper and the pacey forward will no doubt add to a side that when I saw play lacked a little bit of speed up front. Guy Bates is firing this season as well and in my opinion this is a game that the Buds will be aiming to win. It's a genuine six-pointer and I think Adamstown are a bit too good not to win this.

*Update* Adamstown have lost the services of Guy Bates for the remainder of Season 2015 after it was revealed he failed to correctly tie up all loose ends on an international transfer. The Buds will escape punishment for the unintentional error but will lose one of their attacking weapons. Good thing Travis Cooper is on board now. P.S, my tip remains the same. 3-1.

My Tip: Adamstown 3-1 South Cardiff

Under 22's: Adamstown (10th) v South Cardiff (9th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 12:45pm

It's a bottom of the table clash in reserve grade as Adamstown seek their second win of the season against fellow strugglers South Cardiff. After picking up their first win of the season two weeks ago against Maitland, the Buds' reserves went down 3-2 to Lambton last week. The Gunners last outing was the 8-1 horror show against Broadmeadow so I'm tipping the home side on Saturday.

My Tip: Adamstown 2-1 South Cardiff

Under 19's: Adamstown (9th) v South Cardiff (8th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 11:00am

Neither of these sides are having the best season in 2015 and have just four wins between them after 13 matches combined. Still it's an important fixture as a loss would leave one of these sides behind the eight-ball in the race for mid-table and even further into the top four.

As of my tip I'm going out on a limb and backing the home side. In front of their own supports I think the Buds can return to form with their third win of the season in the Under 19's.

My Tip: Adamstown 3-1 South Cardiff

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st Grade: Lambton (6th) v Maitland F.C (9th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 2:30pm

It was a big win for Maitland last week as they overcame Charlestown City on an important fundraising day for the whole Maitland football community. Beating the Blues is good but it'll be a much tougher task when they travel to Arthur Edden Oval to take on the out-of-form defending champions.

Lambton need to start winning some games as I'm fairly certain it's a top four finals competition this year and finishing fifth or sixth won't cut it. Plus Lambton aren't a club that will be satisfied with three draws and two losses after seven matches.

Maitland need to get any points they can in the next few games but Saturday's match is one I can't see them getting much out of to be honest. The addition of Jamie Byrnes will no doubt add to an already potent Jaffas attack and I can't see the home side slipping up in this one, despite a couple of omissions.

My Tip: Lambton 3-0 Maitland F.C

Under 22's: Lambton (3rd) v Maitland F.C (7th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 12:45pm

The Jaffas have lost just one game in reserve grade this season and it came all the way back in Round 1 so they have a bit of form behind them. They'd be top of the table if they managed to draw one or two less games than the three they've already drawn so far from seven starts.

Maitland won't be a walkover but I think the Jaffas will make it a fourth home win in a row.

My Tip: Lambton 2-0 Maitland F.C

Under 19's: Lambton (5th) v Maitland F.C (10th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 11:00am

Lambton were on of just four sides to play in the Under 19's last weekend and they'd be happy they managed to play considering they pulled off a 5-2 win over Adamstown. The Jaffas 19's are now on the edge of the top four and a win against struggling Maitland could lift them into the top four.

The Jaffas should be strong enough and classy enough to grab another win this week.

My Tip: Lambton 4-1 Maitland

1st Grade: Edgeworth F.C (3rd) v Jets Youth (5th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 2:30pm

The Jets Youth looked absolutely horrendous at the back in the 1st half at Magic Park on Monday night. I don't like being too harsh but it wasn't good enough for a Jets Youth side that had been decent in the opening month and half of the season.

This weekend they travel to Jack McLaughlan Oval to take on an Edgeworth side that are in some good form. Damien Zane's men have won a few games in recent times and will like their chances against a slightly depleted and low on confidence Jets side.

The Eagles will be there or there abouts when it comes finals time and I think they'll make it another three points on Saturday. The Jets need some improvement after a horror show at Magic Park last week and I'm not sure they'll be able to overcome the Eagles in this one.

My Tip: Edgeworth 3-1 Newcastle Jets Youth

Newysports.com's Under 22's Match of the Round
Under 22's: Edgeworth (1st) v Emerging Jets U/18's (2nd)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 12:45pm

Consider this to be the match of the round in reserve grade as ladder-leaders Edgeworth host the 2nd-placed Under 18 Emerging Jets. Any slip-ups by either side will all but see them lose their spot on the ladder as it's congested at the top of the Under 22's table.

As for my prediction, Edgeworth's last outing was a mid-week loss to Broadmeadow and they'll need to improve if they want to beat an Emerging Jets side that have overcome Hamilton and Charlestown in recent times. I'm going to tip a draw but could very well see either side coming out winners.

My Tip: Edgeworth 1-1 Emerging Jets U/18's

Under 19's: Edgeworth (4th) v Emerging Jets U/16's (6th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 11:00am

Edgeworth's Under 19's have a big game on Saturday against the sixth-placed Emerging Jets U/16's and despite losing Tuesday night's catch up game to Broadmeadow, the Eagles will be full of confidence. Before Tuesday's game they'd scored four against struggling teams Lambton, Adamstown and Maitland. This is a tougher test but Edgeworth have my tip.

My Tip: Edgeworth 2-1 Emerging Jets U/16's

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st Grade: Hamilton (2nd) v Charlestown (10th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 2:30pm

I can't give Charlestown any chance here and that's with all due respect to everyone involved in the club. The 1st grade boys are out of form and have just one win to their name all season and six losses. Going down 3-0 to fellow strugglers Maitland last weekend was the worst possible result for the former powerhouse and the relegation worry must be taking it's toll by now.

Hamilton are just too good a side to do anything but win this game on Sunday and I know that's a big call to make but they're unbeaten and coming off an impressive win at Weston last week. Charlestown will be kicking themselves if former star striker Kane Goodchild continues his goalscoring form against his old side which I wouldn't be surprised happens at some stage. Hamilton by a few.

My Tip: Hamilton 4-0 Charlestown

Under 22's: Hamilton (5th) v Charlestown (8th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 12:45pm

Hamilton are coming off the back of an impressive 4-2 victory over Weston Workers last weekend whilst Charlestown's last outing was a 3-2 home loss to the Bears so based on that, Olympic are the favourites here and looking at how compact it is in the top six of the Under 22's I think Hamilton will get the job done here and pick up a valuable three points.

My Tip: Hamilton 2-0 Charlestown

Under 19's: Hamilton (3rd) v Charlestown (7th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 11:00am

Hamilton were previously unbeaten in the Under 19's before going down 4-1 at Weston last weekend. They'll be keen to bounce back against a Charlestown side that haven't been that impressive in 2015. At home Olympic are a tough side to beat in any grade so they've got my tip for the 19's clash.

My Tip: Hamilton 3-1 Charlestown City

Newysports.com's 1st Grade Match of the Round
1st Grade: Broadmeadow (1st) v Weston (4th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 2:30pm

Weston went down disappointingly at home to Hamilton last week and now have to face an in-form and free-scoring Broadmeadow side. I say free-scoring because it seems Magic can just flick a switch and go into attack at will. It was an easy victory against the Jets Youth on Monday night but Magic will need to show some improvement as I thought Monday's second half wasn't very impressive and if the Jets were closer to finding the target, the 5-1 scoreline may have been a tad closer.

I've heard there's one or two injury concerns for Broadmeadow but as long as Kale Bradbury and Dino Fajkovic can retain their match fitness, Magic will continue to find the back of the net. It'll be tough against a decent Weston side but I can't tip against Magic as their form is just too good as of late. It'll be an entertaining clash on Sunday and I will be there to provide live updates to the Newysports Facebook page.

My Tip: Broadmeadow 4-2 Weston

Under 22's: Broadmeadow (4th) v Weston (6th)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 12:45pm

Broadmeadow's 22's have been in impressive form as of late. Ignoring a 3-0 loss to Lambton a few weeks backs, the Magic reserves have scored fourteen goals in their two most recent home games and should be considered the favourites on Sunday.

I can't see the home side scoring for fun like they've done in their past two home matches but Weston will need to do well to bounce back from last weekend's 4-2 loss to Hamilton.

My Tip: Broadmeadow 3-1 Weston

Newysports.com's Under 19's Match of the Round
Under 19's: Broadmeadow (2nd) v Weston (1st)
Kickoff: Saturday 30/5 11:00am

Magic won their catch-up game at Edgeworth 2-1 and could put pressure on top of the table Weston with a win on Sunday morning. The Bears are unbeaten in the Under 19's and put four past Hamilton last weekend so it's definitely not an easy match-up for Broadmeadow.

Since losing their opening match of the season, Broadmeadow have won five straight so I can't tip against them but I will split it down the middle and back a draw as I think these sides are evenly matched.

My Tip: Broadmeadow 1-1 Weston
