New-FM 1st Division Rd 5 Results
Only two games were played at Johnston Park on Good Friday due to the wet weather but it was still a eventful afternoon as the Wallsend Red Devils upset their arch rivals and handed the Bluebells their first loss of the season.
The victory, Wallsend's third in a row, moves the Red Devils into third position and talk is building around the in-form Wallsend side. Back to back promotions isn't off the cards if they can produce results like this week in-week out.
The Bluebells got the job done in the bottom of the table 23's clash, holding out Wallsend with a 2-1 victory that moves Westy away from last spot.
Full credit to the groundsman at Macquarie Field, where a whole day of fixtures was able to be played on Friday between Lakes and the visiting Belmont-Swansea.
The home side were expected to get the job done in 1st grade and indeed they did, winning 2-0 despite going down to ten men mid-way through the second half. The win moves the promotion favourites into an equal share of top spot with West Wallsend.
Lakes pulled off a big win in the 23's where they moved into a three-way tie for first place with a 5-2 win over the previously unbeaten Belmont-Swansea.
Meanwhile, the Belmont 19's where held to a draw for the first time this season but remain unbeaten and on top of the table. This game ended 3-3 and moved Lakes into 2nd spot on the Under 19's New-FM table.
Finally, Lakes reclaimed top spot in the Under 17's competition with a convincing 5-1 victory. The win makes it four from four for the young Roosters and will no doubt boost their confidence ahead of a top of the table clash with Cooks Hill next weekend.
