RESULTS: A-League Round 25

Hyundai A-League Round 25

Sydney Supreme As Other Top Sides Falter:

Sydney FC moved into serious contention for the Premiers' Plate with a 3-0 win over a Perth side playing for nothing but pride. The Sky Blues were clinical in a 3-0 win and moved equal with the table-topping Victory, only behind on goal difference.

Victory Fall To Unlikely Jets Defeat:

The Victory were stunned by a desperate Newcastle outfit on Friday night. The Jets weren't pretty but they got the job done on a rare night where the Victory failed to find the back of the net. As a Jets fan I can't say this win over the ladder-leaders improved the overall season but I did enjoy seeing the disappointed look on Kevin Muscat's face. The Victory will most likely turn it around though with back to back games in Brisbane.

Wanderers Can't Crash Hutcho's Farewell Party:

Calling it a party might be a bit much as the Mariners won't be playing finals football this season but it was a fitting victory for the Mariners on Saturday night. I'm not the biggest fan of John Hutchinson, being I'm a Jets fan, but he's a club legend and got the send-off he deserves.

It would have been nice to see Joel Griffiths given a similar send-off by the Jets but we all know how that worked out. As I said in the match preview, Hutcho was a player that I loved to hate and he was a big part of the F3 Derby rivalry. I'll miss yelling out banter to Hutcho at Gosford.

In the other two games, Melbourne City and Wellington played out a scoreless draw, despite both sides producing a few good chances, including a missed penalty attempt from Nathan Burns whilst Brisbane kept their form going with a 3-2 away win in Adelaide.
