PREVIEW: Mid-Week Tips (UCL, A-League & FFA Cup)

The UEFA Champions League returns this Wednesday morning with the Madrid derby possibly the most-awaited fixture of the entire Quarter Final stage. This is without a doubt, Real's toughest test to date in their Champions League defence, ironically against the team they defeated to lift La Decima.

Athletico have played Real four times this season and have won three with the other being a draw. Real were blown off the park in a 4-0 loss at the Vicente Calderon not that long ago and that will no doubt be playing in the mind's of the holders.

As for my tip, I have to go with a draw. Real have hit some form recently while Athletico are also in good form, I can't split them. Yes Real lost 4-0 at the same stadium earlier this season but this isn't La Liga, this is the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final. They'll be fired up and won't want to lose the first leg. Draw for my money.

My Tip: Athletico Madrid 2-2 Real Madrid

As I write this, it wasn't that long ago I read an article about Juventus going down 1-0 to bankrupt Parma in the Italian Serie A. Whilst that's an embarrassing loss for the Old Lady, I'm not doubting in any way, shape or form that they can't win this game.

Monaco did get past Arsenal and did a very good job of it but Juventus are prime for a big-time run in the Champions League and a spot in the Semi Finals is up for grabs here. They'll be hoping to build a strong 1st leg lead before a trip to Monaco and I think they'll do it.

My Tip: Juventus 3-0 AS Monaco

Another high-profile clash as Paris Saint Germain host FC Barcelona on Thursday morning Australian time. The amount of money spent on the 22 players that will take to the field is out of this world so you'd expect a fairly gripping and entertaining contest in Paris.

These sides met in Group F earlier this campaign and each won their respective home clash. So you'd think that makes PSG the favourites here but it was only three seasons ago when Barcelona sent PSG crashing out of the Quarter Finals on away goals.

Barcelona are the heavy favourites with the bookmakers and for good reason. PSG did win the French League Cup on the weekend but are missing a few big names via suspensions and injuries.

My Tip: P.S.G 0-2 FC Barcelona

Porto are one of Portugal's finest teams but they are up against it here. Bayern Munich were held scoreless in their 1st leg Round of 16 clash with Shakhtar Donetsk but fired 7 goals past the Ukrainian side in the 2nd leg at the Allianz Arena.

The good news for Porto is that the first leg is their home game. If they can snag a win here they can try and play defensively in the second leg. I doubt it though. Bayern are in cruise control towards another Bundesliga table and are the favourites to win the Champions League. They're my tip this Thursday.

My Tip: FC Porto 0-3 Bayern Munich

The first of a double-header between these two sides will be played on Wednesday night at 7:40pm E.S.T. Brisbane will be hoping to build on their good form but I cannot see Victory dropping this one. Losing to the Jets last Friday night in my opinion was the last time Victory drop points in season 2015. They cannot afford to lose this with the race for the Premiers' Plate heating up.

My Tip: Brisbane 0-2 Melbourne Victory

This will be an interesting clash at Lisle Carr Oval on Wednesday night. Edgeworth were superb in their 4-0 win over Charlestown City in the NPL Season Opener but South Cardiff came from two goals down to rescue a point against Maitland.

More importantly than the Gunners result last weekend, they know all about the FFA Cup. They made it to the big stage last year and went down disappointingly to South Springvale from Melbourne. Both sides know they're just three wins away from potentially playing on national television and this will no doubt be a fiery clash.

As for my tip, I'm going with the Eagles. They look to be a team that can compete for the local NPL title and based on recent results, I can see them getting over the line but South Cardiff are a team that know how to compete in cup football. Don't be surprised if it goes to penalties either.

My Tip: South Cardiff 1-2 Edgeworth

Another tough one to call sees Charlestown City Blues taking on the Adamstown Rosebud. Charlestown are coming off the back of a heavy 4-0 loss in the opening round and will be fired up to avoid a similar disappointment this Wednesday night.

Adamstown smashed six past Weston in the last round of the FFA Cup but couldn't score any against the Bears just a few days ago in the league. I'm still going to back the visitors though because I think they're on a better level than Charlestown at the moment.

My Tip: Charlestown City 0-2 Adamstown
