2014/15 A-League Round 24 Tips

It was a tough game to watch the other night at Hunter Stadium. I was one of only 4,100ish fans to brave the stormy conditions and I think it's safe to say most Jets fans just want this awful season to end. It's another tough fixture for the Jets this week as they have to travel to AAMI Park and take on the ladder-leading Victory.

I'm just going to say it, there is absolutely no way the Victory should not win this game. I'm tipping 3-0 but it wouldn't surprise me to see a match similar to the one a few years back when the Jets went down to Melbourne and copped a 5-0 flogging from a near perfect Victory side. This could get ugly.

My Tip: Melbourne Victory 3-0 Newcastle Jets

It's 6:30pm EST Friday as I write this preview and I'm disappointed with the news of Perth being dumped from the finals. No doubt it's deserved but I feel for their fans. I may write a longer article about it later on but as for my tip I'm backing Sydney here.

Perth are now playing for nothing but pride and don't get me wrong, I know they'll try their hardest to win tonight. They've got to try and give their fans something to celebrate, even if it's a pointless win over Sydney.

But the visitors can all but seal a top four spot and leave Melbourne City behind with a win tonight. Potentially the Premiers' plate is still within Sydney's reach and coming off of a defeat to Adelaide, I think the Sky Blues will get it done tonight.

My Tip: Perth 1-3 Sydney

The first game on Saturday sees Adelaide United host Brisbane Roar in what will be a crunch game for the hosts as they look to keep themselves in the race for the A-League Premiership. Just two games remain after this one and the Reds cannot afford a slip-up here if they want the Premiers' Plate.

Brisbane are a tough opponent most days of the year but especially when they're coming off a 6-1 demolishing of the Central Coast Mariners last Thursday night. So all in all it's going to be a true test for Adelaide. This is a big chance to prove they have what it takes this season.

Do I believe the Reds will win this, yes I do. It won't be easy but Josep Gombau's side can get the job done. It's the time of year to build some form going into the finals and I can see Adelaide doing that on Saturday afternoon.

My Tip: Adelaide United 3-1 Brisbane Roar

It was barely two years ago when these two sides met at a packed Allianz Stadium in the A-League Grand Final. Now they will do battle at what will most likely be a half-empty Central Coast Stadium in a battle for nothing but pride.

The Wanderers technically have something to play for with a win here all but guaranteeing them of avoiding the wooden spoon. The Mariners on the other hand are saying goodbye to a club legend in John Hutchinson. As a Jets fan there's no player I dislike more but Hutcho has been a stalwart for the Coasties. I'll miss yelling abuse at him in the F3 Derby.

So the Mariners will be hoping to send Hutchinson off with one last hurrah at Central Coast Stadium so I guess in a way both teams to have something to play for but it won't be finals spots that's for sure. I'm going with a win to the visitors. The Mariners were deadset awful last week and the Wanderers will be eyeing off a chance to leave the Jets stranded in last with a win here.

My Tip: Central Coast 1-3 Western Sydney

How the mighty have fallen. Wellington's Premiership hopes will go up in flames with a loss here. The Phoenix have coped a pair of 3-0 home losses over the last fortnight and will be hoping to avoid a third-straight defeat at AAMI Park when they take on Melbourne City.

The last time these sides met they played out a scoreless bore draw but conditions weren't really great at the Hutt Recreational Ground. Expect a goal or two in this one as both sides look to find form going into the playoffs. City haven't been scoring a lot of goals but haven't been held scoreless in over a month.

I originally tipped City earlier today but I've switched to a Wellington win. This is a must-win for the Phoenix's premiership hopes and I'm backing them to get it done on the Yarraside.

My Tip: Melbourne City 1-2 Wellington
