RESULTS-NewFM 1st Division Week 1 2015

Alright, let me start by saying I might not be putting up results for all my different tips but I'll try my best to keep up and try and come up with some results for most comps.

Anyway let's get started.

Game 1: Cooks Hill United 1-1 Cessnock City
My Tip: Cooks Hill United (0 from 1)

This was the first NewFM game I've attended and I was very impressed with the quality considering it was a round 1 clash on a fairly hot afternoon (trust me I had just played before hand across the round). The Cookers had a pretty good style of play and seemed to be trying to play a high-attacking style of football.

The first goal came from a Cessnock player who simply got a goal line clearance wrong and toe'd the ball into his own net. Unfortunate but 1-0 for Cooks Hill. The home side had a few chances to extend the lead and were soon undone when they gave away a penalty. Cessnock converted and tied the game which was good for the neutral because both sides pushed even harder for a winner.

Both keepers had to be on par as the chances weren't very far between. Cooks Hill hit the crossbar whilst Cessnock came just as close. At the end of the day, neither team could find the winner and the match ended with a 1-1 draw. But as I said, I was impressed with the quality and look forward to watching Cooks Hill v Valentine next Saturday.

Game 2: Belmont-Swansea 1-0 Singleton
My Tip: Draw (0 from 2)

Belmont-Swansea got their season off to a good start with a win over the Singleton Strikers at Blacksmiths Oval. I wasn't on the money here as I tipped a draw but Belswans have been one of the form teams in the NewFM division in recent years and it's not really a surprise to see them kickoff season 2015 with a win.

Game 3: West Wallsend 2-1 Kahibah FC
My Tip: Kahibah FC (0 from 3)

Kahibah made their NewFM 1st Division debut at West Wallsend and went in at half-time with a 1-0 lead over the former powerhouse in Newcastle football. The Bluebells have a proud history and would have been determined not to go down in the season opener. They came out for the 2nd half and scored twice to pick up all three points.

Game 4: Lake Macquarie City 6-1 Toronto-Awaba
My Tip: Lake Macquarie City (1 from 4)

This result came as an absolute surprise to me. I didn't think Toronto-Awaba would win but I didn't expect them to get hammered 6-1 by a rampant Lake Macquarie City team. The Roosters will be aiming to go straight back up to the NPL competition and have sent out a warning to the rest of the division with this result. Worrying signs for the Stags though as their reserves went down 5-1 as well.

Game 5: Valentine FC 2-1 Wallsend FC
My Tip: Valentine FC (2 from 5)

Wallsend took on the pre-season favourites at Baxter Field and would have been boosted by Valentine going down to ten men early on in the contest. The Red Devils would end up going down 2-1 but would have been happy to return to the 2nd tier of Newcastle football. It's good to see a club with such history thriving after 125 or so years.

That concludes my review for the NewFM week 1. It's hard to give much of a review when I only saw one game so I may change the format to a simpler score sheet or something in time. I'll be getting out to Cooks Hill v Valentine next week and am looking forward to seeing what should be an entertaining match-up.
