New-FM 1st Division Results (Round 3)
Belmont-Swansea v Toronto-Awaba
I heard that Belswans played a squad featuring a few players filling in from the Under 19's side. I can't confirm nor deny but it's an impressive result nonetheless as it moves the Belswans up to equal top spot on the 1st grade New-FM table.
Cessnock City v Singleton
I called this game right down to the scoreline with Singleton pulling out a 2-1 away win at Turner Park. The Hornets now drop to the bottom of the table whilst Singleton can celebrate their first win of the new season. But it wasn't all bad news for Cessnock as the Under 23's squad went equal top with a 2-0 victory in their game.
Wallsend FC v Cooks Hill United
I chose to go watch the FFA Cup instead of Cooks Hill and personally it looks like I made the right choice (sorry Wallsend). It was the perfect result for the Red Devils as 2nd-tier football returned to the Gardens. It was wins for the visitors though in the 23s and 19s whilst Cooks Hill's high-flying 17's side was grounded in a 1-1 draw.
Valentine Phoenix v Thornton Redbacks
I expected this match to be a tight on but Valentine proved why they were the pre-season promotion favourites with an impressive 6-1 win over Thornton at Baxter Field. They did score four in the last ten minute as Thornton's defence fell apart but still a big win for the Phoenix.
Thornton got the three points in the 23s whilst Valentine's 19s picked up a 4-0 win. Both sides 17s squads struggled in the opening two rounds and could only pander up a 1-1 draw in the early match.
West Wallsend v Lake Macquarie City FC
This was arguably the Match of the Round from what I've heard and I've also heard that Lakes were unlucky to not get all three points at Johnston Park. The 2-2 draw was the only blemish on what was otherwise a great day out for the high-flying Lakes Roosters.
