FFA CUP RESULTS- NNSW RD 3
Adamstown Pounce On Woeful Weston:
(Weston Workers 0-6 Adamstown Rosebuds)
Adamstown's 6-0 win over Weston sees the Rosebud move through to the fourth round in some style. It comes at a great time too with the NPL season just a few weeks away. Weston on the other hand are in some trouble if they played full-strength today (I'm not sure on team line-ups).
Getting dumped out of the FFA Cup 6-0 by a team in the same division as you isn't good enough and surely there'll have to be some questions asked at Rockwell Automation Park before the season proper starts in a few weeks time.
Hamilton Let Lead Slip Against Edgeworth:
(Hamilton Olympic 1-2 Edegworth FC)
Edgeworth Eagles are through to the next round of the FFA Cup after a come from behind 2-1 victory over Hamilton Olympic at Darling St Oval. A big result for the Eagles who keep their cup run alive whilst Olympic will be disappointed after letting a 1-0 half-time lead slip away.
It won't be long until these teams meet again as they clash at Darling St in Round 2 of the NPL-NNSW.
Jesmond Stun Mayfield In Shootout Win:
(Mayfield United 3-3 Jesmond FC) *Jesmond Win On Penalties
I didn't get to catch this game but would have enjoyed to see a penalty shootout. I didn't expect Jesmond to upset Zone Premier League side Mayfield United but after knocking out Toronto-Awaba in Round 2, the Rams are now flying high after another FFA Cup win.
The big problem now for the Rams is the fact that they would have to be very lucky to avoid drawing a NPL side in the next round. Still a very big effort to get this far from Jesmond.
Late Drama As Charlestown Send Maitland Crashing Out:
(Charlestown City Blues 3-2 Maitland FC)
With extra time looming, Maitland hearts were broken when Charlestown scored with just a couple of minutes left in the match. Not all bad news for Maitland as I think they'll match it quite well in the NPL.
Jaffas Out As Magic Power On:
(Broadmeadow Magic 2-0 Lambton Jaffas)
I've lost count of how many times I've seen these teams clash and after a poor year last season Magic needed to get on the upper hand early on. The addition of Kale Bradbury added to the Magic attack whilst Jobe Wheelhouse and Michael Bridges were sidelined by injury for the visiting Jaffas.
After a first half full of chances for both teams, the breakthrough finally came when Peter Haynes opened the scoring early in the second half. It would have been a relief for Haynes as he struggled in front of goal last season.
Dino Fajkovic put the Magic 2-0 ahead and it could have been more as Lambton struggled to clear their lines and maintain any real possession. Magic move on whilst the Jaffas will need to look ahead to the NPL season and defending their title.
