New-FM 1st Division Tips-Round 4
I won't be able to catch the whole of this game as I play at 1:30 across the road but I will try and catch the 2nd half. Cooks Hill got two 1-1 draws in the opening round and were a tad unlucky not to get the win against Valentine in Round 2. A 3-1 loss to Wallsend last week would have dampened spirits and the Cookers will be hoping to turn things around against Singleton this Saturday.
Singleton got the job done at Cessnock last week and will likely be the favourites to beat the NewFM Division newcomers. I can't see this being a high scoring game so the chances when they come will no doubt be crucial. Cooks Hill need to improve in front of goal and start banging in a few more goals.
Expect a defensive battle with lots of chances on the counter. I'm tipping a Cooks Hill win to kickstart their campaign.
In the lower games, I'm going for a 1-1 draw in the 23's simply because there is a pattern of 1-1 draws in all three Cooks Hill matchdays so far in the NewFM comp. But in reality I'm tipping the draw because I think Singleton won't want to fall much further behind the pack in the 23's comp.
Singleton's Under 19's are in shambles at the moment. I don't know much about their club so I don't really know why they've conceded eleven in two games but I've tipped Cooks Hill to get the job done and bang in four. The Cookers 19's have won two in a row and I'm backing them to make it three.
In the 17's I've backed the home side once again. The 17's ladder is starting to stretch out more than the others. The Cookers are in 2nd and after two big wins in the first two weeks they could only find a draw last week. Singleton's 17's got a 6-1 win last week so it's a bit tough to back against them but I'm feeling confident about Cooks Hill's chances at home.
1st Grade: Cooks Hill 2-1 Singleton
23's: Draw 1-1
19's: Cooks Hill 4-0 Singleton
17's: Cooks Hill 3-1 Singleton
If there are two teams desperate for some luck and a win it's got to be Cessnock and Toronto-Awaba. The Hornets were near enough to grabbing all three points against Cooks Hill in the season opener but have followed up with home losses against Thornton and Singleton.
The Stags on the other hand are in freefall and have let in 14 goals in three games (along with their shock FFA Cup exit to ZL1 side Jesmond FC). I'm not sure what's going on out at Lyall Peacock Field but what I do know is the Stags should be doing a lot better than they currently are.
As for my tip, I'm going for Cessnock to win it. A third-straight home loss wouldn't cut it for a side that have to travel for the next two rounds. They need to kick-start their season with a valuable three points and I think it'll come against Toronto-Awaba.
In the other games, I'm going for Cessnock in the 23's and 19's whilst I think Toronto-Awaba could snag a result in the 17's. Scores are below of course.
1st Grade: Cessnock City 2-0 Toronto-Awaba
23's: Cessnock City 3-1 Toronto-Awaba
19's: Cessnock City 5-1 Toronto-Awaba
17's: Cessnock City 1-2 Toronto-Awaba
In my opinion this is the game of the round in the New-FM 1st Division. Both these teams are unbeaten in the first three rounds and with both locked in a four-way tie for 1st, something has to give at Johnston Park on Sunday afternoon.
Based on last week's results I'd say that Belswans could very well get the job done here but West Wallsend held Lakes to a draw and being a home game for the Bluebells I am backing them to grab the three points. This will probably be a tight game but I'm tipping Westy to get over the line.
Belswans should be too strong in the 23's as their undefeated reserves side take on a West Wallsend side without a point in three games. I've gone with the top of the table Belswans in the 19's. Expect them to grab a few goals as they've scored 14 in three. The 17's is a bit tougher to predict. Personally, I'm going with the draw.
1st Grade: West Wallsend 3-2 Belswans
23's: West Wallsend 0-2 Belswans
19's: West Wallsend 1-4 Belswans
17's: Draw 1-1
The two sides that occupy 6th and 7th clash on Sunday afternoon with Thornton looking to bounce back from a 6-1 loss to Valentine last week. From all reports the Redbacks were good but fell apart in the final 10 minutes. Wallsend on the other hand picked up their first win against Cooks Hill.
I'd tip Wallsend based on last week's result but the Redbacks did beat West Wallsend in the FFA Cup on Wednesday night and I wouldn't be surprised to see them snag a result here. I'm going to back an entertaining 2-2 draw but wouldn't rule out a win for either side.
In the lower grades, I've gone with Thornton in the 23's against a Wallsend side that conceded five to Cooks Hill last week. The 19's I'll tip a draw after Thornton copped a heavy loss last week against Valentine. The Wallsend 19's are without a point so I think they'll be desperate to get something out of this. Finally, a 1-1 draw in the 17's for two sides that drew 1-1 in their games last week.
1st Grade: Draw 2-2
23's: Wallsend 1-3 Thornton
19's: Draw 1-1
17's: Draw 1-1
Kahibah return to action after last week's bye with a trip to Baxter Field and a game against the Valentine Phoenix. Valentine have enjoyed a run of matches at their temporary home ground, including their 7-0 win over Simba in the FFA Cup mid-week.
Kahibah are without a win in two and I think they'll struggle against Valentine. The Phoenix got off to a slow start but have now started to find their goal-scoring form. It's the last game for the Phoenix at Baxter Field and I think they'll leave the venue with a win.
In the lower grades, I'm going for a 2-2 draw in the 23's. I would have tipped Valentine but a loss to Thornton last week has swayed me towards the draw. Valentine's 19's should be too good for a winless Kahibah side. Finally, I'm going for the visiting Kahibah in the 17's as they look to build on their two first up wins. Valentine's 17's are strangely sitting dead last with only a draw to their name.
1st Grade: Valentine 3-1 Kahibah
23's: Draw 2-2
19's: Valentine 3-0 Kahibah
17's: Valentine 0-2 Kahibah
