2015 NRL Tips-Round 3

A big game at Brookvale on Friday night as the Sea Eagles host the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. After a fortnight of turmoil, Manly finally turned a corner last week with a gutsy 24-22 win over the Storm and news that Kieran Foran has secured his future will no doubt help as the Geoff Toovey's men look to turn the focus onto on-field matters.

And there's no better game for Manly to dig in than against the Bulldogs and former coach Des Hasler. This rivalry has exploded in recent years and never fails to produce an entertaining match-up. This Friday will no doubt be the same as both sides look to build some form after first-up victories in Round 2.

Canterbury are the favourites and deservedly so. They looked very strong in last Friday's win over Parramatta and are surely going to be fired up for a big night at Brookvale but Manly are never to under-estimated at the fortress on Pittwater Rd. I think Manly will produce a backs against the wall performance and get a moral boosting win.

My Tip: Manly-Warringah 22-18 Canterbury-Bankstown

The Queensland game on Friday night sees the Brisbane Broncos take on North Queensland at Suncorp Staduium. Whilst the Broncos did get a win last week, neither side have looked like legit premiership contenders in the opening two rounds. The Cowboys in fact are in dire need of a good result after losing their first two at home for the first time in over a decade.

It's hard to call how this one will go but at Suncorp I think Brisbane will get the job done. It might be a result they need to grind out like they did at Cronulla last week but I can see Wayne Bennett's side getting the job done.

My Tip: Brisbane 18-6 North Queensland

Super Saturday kicks off in New Zealand when the Warriors play their first home match of the season against Parramatta. The Warriors got the job done down in Canberra last weekend and against a Parramatta side that has a bit of an injury crisis after last week's loss to the Bulldogs.

Travelling to Auckland with so many injury concerns isn't going to play into Parramatta's favour at all. Depending on the ins and outs this could potentially get ugly as the Warriors look to open up their home campaign in style.

My Tip: New Zealand 24-6 Parramatta

St George-Illawarra's opening start to the season has not been impressive at all and now they travel to a venue where a long-term 'hoodoo' haunted the Dragons for 14 years. Last August they picked up their first win in the nation's capital since 2000. This Saturday I'm tipping against them getting a 2nd. I can see Canberra just sneaking over the line here.

My Tip: Canberra 18-16 St. George-Illawarra

Super Saturday ends at AAMI Park where the Storm will be looking for some more luck than they received at Brookvale Oval last week. A couple of dodgy calls from the officials cost Melbourne any hope of a comeback and I can see them pushing hard to go in front early against the Sharks this weekend.

Cronulla could only manage two points at home against Brisbane last week and I can see them struggling at AAMI Park. Melbourne all the way for my money.

My Tip: Melbourne 22-6 Cronulla

The Channel Nine game on Sunday sees two undefeated teams clash at ANZ Stadium in the Rabbitohs and the Tigers. South Sydney have been devastatingly good in their opening two matches and are understandably heavy favourites to beat the Tigers on Sunday.

Wests Tigers are two from two but being over the Titans and the struggling Dragons I can't give them two much credit for their early season form. I'm pretty confident the Tigers will be outclassed on Sunday.

My Tips: South Sydney 32-12 Wests Tigers

Greg Bird and the boys are back in the Titans team this weekend and personally I think that is a good call from the board at the Gold Coast. They should leave any possible sackings due to the off-field drama until it's all sorted out legally.

Anyway onto the footy. Newcastle picked up a tight win in Townsville last week and I've tipped them to grab another victory on the Gold Coast on Sunday. You can never write off the Knights so this time round I'm backing them to go the distance against the Titans.

My Tips: Gold Coast 12-20 Newcastle

The final game of Round 3 sees the Sydney Roosters host the Penrith Panthers. Both these teams look like genuine top four contenders but I personally think the Roosters will get over the line on Monday night. A win for Penrith though would boost their premiership hopes greatly though I don't think they'll be getting the job done on Monday.

My Tip: Roosters 24-12 Panthers
