2015 MLS Tips-Round 2

Hello and welcome to my second week of MLS tips. Before I get into the predictions, let me introduce my more in-depth MLS previews. The first game (Houston v Orlando) is already up but I'm not sure if I'll do the in-depth style of preview for every game. Also included is a new heading graphic for each game. Enjoy!

Round 2 of Major League Soccer's 20th season kicks off at the BBVA Compass Stadium as the Houston Dynamo host Kaka's Orlando City. The Dynamo will be hoping a second-straight home game will be equaled by a second-straight win whilst Orlando will be looking for their maiden MLS victory.

Granted I didn't see the entire Houston game but I just watched some highlights and they were lucky to get all three points against Columbus last week. Tyler Deric was forced to pull off a few good saves and survived a scare late on when Federico Higuain hit the crossbar in the 71st minute.

Houston's winner came from a lightning fast counter attack that saw Giles Barnes get on the end of a picture perfect cross from the right wing. Orlando on the other hand had to leave it late to seal a draw with NYCFC. Kaka's deflected free kick salvaged a point for the Lions in their home opener.

This game is a tough one to call but I'm going to lean towards Houston Dynamo. At home and coming off the back of a good defensive performance last week, the team in orange will surely be up for it when they take on the league's new boys.

My Tip: Houston Dynamo Win

Neither of these teams got off to the best start in week 1 with Chicago going down to LA Galaxy in the opening game and Vancouver receiving a 3-1 loss to Canadian rivals Toronto FC.

Week 2 is a new chance for both these sides and without going into too much detail I'm backing Chicago to win. In front of a vocal home support, the Fire I think will be too good for the travelling Whitecaps.

My Tip: Chicago Fire Win

I saw the highlights of both these teams from last week and despite losing 1-0 to Houston, the Crew didn't look too far off the mark. Toronto got the best of a poor Vancouver side and I think they'll find it tough against Columbus away from home.

These sides are rivals and compete for the Trillium Cup. Columbus have the better record overall and I can see them adding to that in tomorrow's game.

My Tip: Columbus Crew SC Win

FC Dallas picked up an opening day win last week against the Quakes but now they have to welcome Sporting Kansas City to Toyota Stadium. Sporting would be disappointed after a 1-1 draw with the Red Bulls last week and will be seeking their first win of the new campaign.

Dallas I think will just get over the line at home. Maybe 1-0.

My Tip: FC Dallas Win

Real Salt Lake are the heavy favourites against the Union tomorrow and for good reason. Their home form over the last few seasons has been very impressive. Neither of these sides managed to score a goal last week but I think RSL should be too good for the visitors.

My Tip: Real Salt Lake Win

The last game of a marathon Sunday morning Australian time sees Seattle Sounders host San Jose Earthquakes. The Quakes are the ranked outsiders and it's no surprise. They finished bottom of the Western conference last season whilst the Sounders won the title. This may very well be a mismatch and I can see the Sounders recording a similar scoreline to last week's 3-0 win over New England. Sounders all the way here.

My Tip: Seattle Sounders Win

No that's not a typo in the graphic, MLS soccer is coming to Yankee Stadium. New York City host New England Revolution in the historic home opener for the team backed by Manchester City and the famous team in the blue pinstripes.

New England had a pretty good season last year but a horror 3-0 loss to Seattle last week got their new campaign off to the worst start. That's why I'm thinking NYC will get the job done here and pull off their first MLS win.

My Tip: New York City FC Win

Portland and LA Galaxy end the weekend with a big-time clash at Providence Park. The defending champions opened the season with a 2-0 win over Chicago last week and now take on a Timbers side who could only record a 0-0 draw with Real Salt Lake in week 1.

Portland's home backing is one of the best in the MLS but a win over LA Galaxy will be hard to get. It's that reason that leads me to tip a draw here.

My Tip: Draw
