2014/15 A-League Round 23 Tips

2014/15 A-League Tips-Round 23

Round 23 of the A-League kicks off at AAMI Park with Melbourne Victory hosting the Central Coast Mariners. It's no surprise that Victory are the heavy favourites as they have a lot more on the line here than the Mariners do. The team from Gosford are well out of finals contention and are playing for pride.

Victory should get the job done here and done well. They put three past the Mariners earlier this season at North Sydney and I wouldn't be surprised to see them do the same here. Besart Berisha is in some doubt for the game but the home side should be good enough to overcome that.

My Tip: Melbourne Victory 3-0 Central Coast Mariners

AAMI Park hosts it second A-League game in 24 hours when Brisbane Roar come to town to face off with Melbourne City. This game is as crucial as any so far this season. Melbourne City can all but seal a spot in the finals with a win whilst Brisbane need the three points to stay alive.

I know mathematically Brisbane would still have a slim chance of making the finals if they lose but in all reality they simply can't afford to lose this game. City got the best of Sydney FC at Allianz last week and I'm tipping them to do the same to Brisbane. This is City's time to shine and seal a finals spot in their inaugural season as a re-branded club.

My Tip: Melbourne City 2-0 Brisbane Roar

Another crucial game as Perth Glory hosts the travelling Western Sydney Wanderers. I'm getting used to writing 'travelling' before the Wanderers. How much travel can one team do in a season. They've been to Asia and back multiple times, been to Morocco, just went to Brisbane mid-week and now a trip to Perth. Busy times indeed for the Wanderers.

Perth have still not broken their winless streak. Nine games have passed since the former ladder leaders tasted victory and that stat alone is astonishing. I'm backing the Glory to get the three points and keep their slim Premiership hopes alive.

My Tip: Perth Glory 2-0 Western Sydney

This game is a shoe-in for game of the round. Both these teams can produce entertaining football and I'm sure we'll see a fair bit of that on Sunday. Wellington are making their long-awaited return to Westpac Stadium against a high-scoring Sydney team that was grounded last week.

The Phoenix can really take a massive step towards a shock Premiership win. I'm backing them to get the three points against Sydney. There's something about Wellington at the moment. They're on the rise and the top of the mountain is in sight. A win for mine.

My Tip: Wellington Phoenix 3-1 Sydney FC

The final game of Round 23 will be Newcastle's home clash with Adelaide United. The Jets are heavy outsiders and yes they did manage to win last week but it was a hollow win. I'm a Jets member and a passionate fan but there wasn't much emotion in that drought-breaking win last week.

It's not that the team didn't do well because they did but against a weakened Wanderers squad I just can't accept it as a big win. That being said, a shock upset against a full-strength Adelaide this week would be one of the better Jets wins in recent memory.

But in reality I think the Jets will stay grounded here. They copped seven from Adelaide in their last meeting and whilst I don't see it that happening again, I'm sure Adelaide will do enough to get the job done here. It pains me to say it as a Jets fan but this should be a routine day at the office for the Reds.

My Tip: Newcastle Jets 0-4 Adelaide United
