2014/15 A-League Round 20 Tips

Game 1: Newcastle Jets v Sydney FC (Friday 6 Mar 7:45pm)

The first game of the round sees my local team the Newcastle Jets host the in-form Sydney FC. The Sky Blues have been red-hot in front of goal during recent matches but conceding three to their arch rivals from the West last week wouldn't help their lack of confidence in defence. Graham Arnold will surely look to lock up shop at the back and have his side produce an all-round performance against lowly Newcastle.

It pains me to tip against the team I follow but the Jets haven't done much in recent weeks to even look like they'd have a chance of victory against Sydney FC. Draws against the out-of-form Mariners and Wanderers leaves a lot to be desired and the lack of confidence from the Jets players will surely mean anything more than a draw would be a surprise tonight.

Marc Janko is the hottest property in the A-League right now and the Austrian captain will surely add to his ever-growing goal tally at Hunter Stadium. I can see Sydney racking up a few tonight.

My Tip: Newcastle 1-3 Sydney FC

Game 2: Wellington Phoenix v Adelaide United (Sat 7 Mar 5:00pm AEDT)

Wellington host Adelaide at the Hutt Recreational Ground and will be looking to back up after a big away win over the Victory last week. Both these teams are locked on 33 points and a win for either will see them temporarily jump the Victory into outright 3rd. As fluent as Adelaide United can be I can't go past Wellington who need to really get back into winning form after some unlucky games against Western Sydney and Newcastle. Beating Victory last night was a good start and I can see them doing the same at the Hutt Rec today.

My Tip: Wellington 2-1 Adelaide United

Game 3: Melbourne Victory v Perth Glory (Sat 7 Mar 7:30pm)

Perth are ranked outsiders in the betting markets but I give them a chance here in the top of the table clash with Victory. The Glory have struggled in recent times and are winless in their last six. Their last win ironically came in Victoria but the last time these two sides played, Victory came back from the dead to pick up a 3-3 draw. Tonight I think the team in navy blue can pick up the whole three points.

My Tip: Melbourne Victory 2-1 Perth Glory

Game 4: Central Coast Mariners v Melbourne City (Sun 8 Mar 3:00pm)

Melbourne City are a side that need to keep good form and consolidate their spot in the top six. Since their 3-0 loss to their cross-town rivals, City haven't lost a game and picked up an impressive 3-1 victory last week against Adelaide United and I can see them taking all three points from Gosford on Sunday. I don't think it'll be high-scoring but City for the win is my pick.

My Tip: Central Coast 0-1 Melbourne City

Game 5: Brisbane Roar v Western Sydney Wanderers (Sun 8 Mar 5:00pm)

The final game of round 20 sees a grand final rematch between the Roar and the Wanderers. With Melbourne City above them, Brisbane need to keep picking up points or they'll see their finals hopes quickly slip away. Describing the Wanderers as out-of-form would be an understatement as the Grand Finalists form last season sit at the foot of the table. Expect a Brisbane win here but it shouldn't be too high-scoring with the Roar lacking in front of the net in recent times.

My Tip: Brisbane Roar 1-0 WSW
